Just wondering if anybody else is either attracted or repelled by chapter length? Im meant to be reading Terry Pratchetts The Light Fantastic, but im being put off by the lack of chapter breaks. It's just 200+ pages of continuous narrative and my mind sees it as a massive chore!
I know as the reader I have control over when I stop and start, but to me a chapter break is like permission from the author to take a breather if needed. I felt the same with Conrad's The Heart of Darkness which again is a short book, but is comprised of just 3 massive chapters!
I am guilty of skipping ahead to see how many pages are in the next chapter, which is how I've managed to read over 100 pages of The Marriage Act by John Marrs because the short snappy chapters attracted me, even though it's 3 times as long as the Terry Pratchett.
Does anybody else's brain act weirdly in this way?!
