So much is and has happened but omg this is so fun. Do I know the difference between Finarfin, Fingolfin, Fëanor, and Finwë? Glad you asked, no I do not, but I DO know they’re all related! Suppose that’s what I get for listening to the audiobook and not looking at words on a page 😅

This was my first proper foray into litrpg as a genre, and I really enjoyed myself! This book was definitely Legend of Zelda fanfic, and while it was fun I wish it had had a bit more originality in its settings and characters to differentiate itself. The main character, Yui Shaw, was very much a blank canvas (which could be a staple of the litrpg genre, idk) and I wish she had more to her. The side characters really stood out to me. The story managed to be predictable and unpredictable at the same time. I don’t know how else to describe it. The ending was definitely a plot twist that I sort of saw coming, but the way that it was achieved I did not see coming. Andrew Rowe was very creative with how he used Yui’s class abilities in fights. The writing was simple and informal, which while usually being something that I don’t like, felt right for this book and the genre. The wink nudge references to LoZ were fun, although it’s a fine line between references and directly using those tropes/items/locations. It left me with a lot to think about the Chosen One/Hero as an archetype and breaking cycles of violence. All that being said, it was a very fun read and helped me get out of my reading slump. It was like playing a video game but reading it instead, which is great to help cut down on my screen time.
