I really wanted to like this book because I absolutely LOVED A Study in Drowning. This book still had the same lyrical prose and descriptions as the first book, but it lacked the same emotional depth imo. I liked how the narrative switched between povs, but I didn’t feel like it gave me as much insight into the characters as I hoped. The storyline felt disconnected from the previous book and also disjointed in the flow of the narrative. The ending also felt sudden and strange to me and didn’t provide me with the resolution I was hoping for.

Im not entirely sure why this thought circled back around at this point in the story…(maybe because there have been a few chapters from Fray’s POV?), but can we talk about how Jack’s mum told him at the start of the book that he and Fray were full-blooded siblings, so their father must be an islander, but no one has talked about it since? It feels like this is an important thread to the story that has just been left hanging and I wonder will it find its way into the weave of the rest of the narrative?
