This is so far out of my usual genre I really didn’t know what to expect. The short, snappy and slang filled writing style took me a while to get to grips with but once I got that Irish accent settled in my brain I feel like it read much smoother.

This story was heartbreaking and tragic and yet still had an undeniable element of love. As hopeless as the entire situation was there were these little glimpse of happiness that made the entire thing all the more heartbreaking. Our protagonist wasn’t the most likeable but you can feel the whole way through that he is as lost and stuck as the rest of them in the scenario. He has no real sense of loyalty and relies on his anger and brutality to get him by and yet through that he manages to fall in love. We read that he feels utterly alone in the world and yet we are shown that there are many people that care about him if only he would let them and accept the help being offered. I had no hopes for a happy ending but even the tragic nature of how it goes down in the end is brilliantly indicative of the pathetic nature of these environments, in the end he goes down not with a bang but a sad sad fizzle.

This book truly was beautiful and enjoyable. I’m glad the Book long list brought it across my kindle!

‘And I just knew he was in there, because I was being pulled to him no matter my intentions, because there was a part of me I needed back’

This is actually such a beautifully tragic way of writing that he’s fallen in love. Against his own wishes, all the odds and the tragic nature of the world and environment he’s found himself in he has fallen in love. And even that isn’t enough to make it all ok.

    The Constellation of Forgotten Things

When love transcends the boundaries of time, memory, and even death itself. In the world of Reveria, broken dreams rise as trails of light across the night sky. A blacksmith's boy vanishes into rebellion. Two cosmic beings—one of Memory, one of Void—discover their forbidden love might reshape reality. The Constellation of Forgotten Things weaves together interconnected tales of love that defies impossible distances: between life and death, earth and sky, remembering and forgetting. Each story illuminates a different facet of love's power to endure—and its cost. This collection is both an act of remembrance and a celebration of the stories we tell to keep our beloveds alive, proving that some bonds transcend even the veil between worlds. Perfect for readers who love the lyricism of Madeline Miller and Alix E. Harrow, the emotional storytelling of Studio Ghibli films, and the mythic beauty of Ursula K. Le Guin's work. If you read for gorgeous language and deep feeling rather than fast plots—these stories will captivate you. Love that would change the constellations and the reality of existence.

At first I struggled with the way this is written, very short clipped sentences and a lot of info that the narrator assumes we know. But I am liking it, learning who this character is, seeing his barely contained anger which is actually loosely covering his fear and grief. I’m a romance girl at heart so I’m hoping we see more of the softer moments between him and Flute.

I made it so close the end but had to DNF. This book was boring and I’m so disappointed because it was in my TBR for so long. I couldn’t bring myself to care about a single character.

This book and series felt like such a big undertaking and it’s why I put it off for so long. But I have flown through them and the series is exactly what everyone says it is. Loved every minute ❤️
