3.75/5 When I started this, I genuinely had no idea I would be sobbing over whales lmao. I really love Carley Fortune's writing, specifically the yearning and how she describes her characters, especially how her characters see each other and the little ways that are intimate and loving but in a casual way, like them sharing a snack and the not so casual touches. I always love it. I’m also a sucker for childhood friends to lovers; she wrote one of my favorites for that trope. This one didn’t quite live up to that one. I feel like this story was missing a few key things. I need more flashback chapters. I know she can do it so so well, so it was a bummer that we only got a few in this story. I'm not sure if that's why I felt like this story was a little more rushed and to the point. I wish we could have gotten more showing and less telling, but by the end, I was really enjoying it; it was very cute, heartfelt, and a fun summer read. 

i know frankie seems to get some flack for being god awful (she is), but george was just as bad. a match made in hell. #justicefornate

i'm so glad i did every summer after and one golden summer first (which was perfection) because this might have put me off Carley's writing. dialogue was terrible and corny, literally barely any exposition (never knew a book needed flashbacks more than this one), barely any plot or character development. these two weren't best friend's, they were codependent idiots. where was the tension? the angst? genuinely no emotional depth with any of the storylines.

if 'here damn' was a book. just no heart in it :/ my faves always have one or two disappointing books and i've learned to accept and love them despite the slop.

I fully enjoyed this romance novel - George and Frankie had me giggling and kicking my feet. I’m a big fan of friends to lovers in contemporary romance and it was delivered so well in Our Perfect Storm. Carley Fortune does an excellent job of writing such a beautiful place and using pathetic fallacy to connect the emotions of the characters to the physical place they are in. Overall I highly recommend and I will definitely come back to Carley Fortune when I need another romance!

The audiobook production was pretty good - I liked that they had a male narrator to deliver George’s lines. But some of the ways that the female narrator delivered lines had weird stresses on some words and strange choices about pacing that I didn’t love.

My only complaint (a petty one) is how much Carley Fortune hammered on about Frankie’s violet eyes. 🙄. It was giving Wattpad. Show me one person in real life who has purple eyes! I dare you!b
