not every story hits as hard, but some really strike a nerve. she's one of the best short story writers i've ever read. i love the little glimpses into people's lives and my favourite one so far was the sweets shop one. i get that novels are still more popular now than short stories but i really wish she would get a revival of interest and be more well known again đ

sad that she ended up forgotten :((
"despite her pride of place in history and despite the exceptional beauty of her hymns, the world has forgotten about Enheduana. Western literary history instead begins with Homer, a man who sang his songs some fifteen hundred years after her death."

Classics aren't born as classics. Classics get their status in the future, based on how popular it has been, if the themes still speak to future generations, if the writing is really good, if they completely changed a genre or created a new one.
So, what book that has come out recently (last 10 years) you think should/must become a classic in the future? And why?
My take, is The spirit bares its teeth by Andrew J White. It is phenomenal. It talks about the past, and the present as well, and, unfortunately, probably the future too.
It has phenomenal depiction of misogyny. I never felt so validated and enraged as when I read this. And also really good representation of neurodivergence and of the lgbtqia+ community (I'm not part of any of these categories, but, if I'm not wrong, the author is). It also takes from how mental health was once treated, especially with women. As a psychology student, I think it does it almost perfectly.
The style flows beautifully. The pace is perfect, setting in a sense of normalcy to snatch it away with another plot twist. The story is rich of emotion.
This masterpiece genuinely deserves more recognition.

this book is written from a perspective that i wouldn't usually relate to, a young mother with young kids whose live very much revolves around being a stay at home mother (unfathomable for me)
and to be honest, this perspective usually would put me of from reading, but for some reason i stay glued to the pages, because i feel the fervor she has to this other, much older, female author, to this old text that almost feels mythical.
i'm looking at Doireann (living a very different life from me) who's looking at EibhlĂn (living a very different life from her) and there's a red string running through all 3 of us
