I was on tiktok and saw someone stitching a video response of a woman criticising a mm book. But thats not what i want to talk about ( this is the useless contex i add for no reason sometimes😂) what i want to talk about is a comment in the video. The comment was
" i don’t understand why people can’t just say “it wasn’t for me” and move on. I am not here to yuck someone’s yum or criticize someone’s work. We can’t all like the same things, I get that, but I’m no hater." And the creator responded with "Yes!!!! Stop being haters, please🔥"
hate ( or more so criticism) is just as important as the love. its a book not a fanfic. people will criticise it. it will be criticised and analysed. there will be haters talking about how stupid the book is (im not talking about the book in the video here btw. im talking in general) and how the characters are also stupid. we cant all love the same wrork. wich is ultimately why people hate books. And criticize them.
Ofc we're not talking about ridiculous criticism that are not even about the book (like not being able to see yourself in the characters) or cruel criticism.
But what stood out to me is " I am not here to........or criticize someone’s work" because no. I AM here to criticise someones work. Especially when its a PUBLISHED book. I would agree if this was about fanfics but published book? No. Absolutely not. People are allowed to hate books.
Thats part of art. Art will be criticised or loved. And not every criticism will be deep and analytical. Sometimes even "it was boring" is still valid. Because at the end it WAS boring. I read it and it bored me why wouldn't that be valid? You might read it and find it fun amd nkt boring and yours would be valid too. Its subjective. Like, if you dont want your book to be criticised then write a fanfic, an original fanfic. Dont publish it🤷♀️.
I hope i explained this well. What do yall think?

I am loving this, the writing is simplistic and yet so good

I just found this one kinda disappointing.. while the main character was very smart and resourceful, I found the rest of them just boring.
It felt like I was dragged through the mud for the entire book, then pulled up to look for some kind of message that I wasn't able to see.
I think I was just hoping to find out a little more about why the women were trapped in the first place. Why them? Why is everyone else pretty much gone? What led up to this point?
It had a lot of potential! Just fell a bit flat for me.

A disgustingly overwritten book with inhuman characters making life ruining choices that the narrative praises. This book angered me and is kind of making me want to swear off any straight romances ever again in the future. Between plot inconsistencies, heavy description and metaphor padding, lackluster queer representation + a few too many sex scenes I was left wondering what the point was. This book had nothing to say. Why did I spend my short time on earth reading this. For a little badge on an app. I suppose that was kind of worth it. This book pissed me off by virtue of being bad. A truly impressive feat.

What a strange, interesting world. This book is so cool, I look forward to continuing the series as an adult, I’m not sure I ever finished it when I was younger. I did find it very interesting how the book made a big theological argument towards the end, I’m curious how the authors religious bias will contribute to the story in the future.

My first DNF of the year 🥲
The whole intro where Helena was thrashing around every other paragraph gave me a headache. Then I read a few forum posts are realized this is way too dark for me right now. Maybe when the world isn't burning down I'll give it another go 😭

I kept waiting for the ball to drop with this one, for the writing and the story to reflect a title as powerful as 'You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty', but it never came.
The characters seemed... well, like characters, I didn't feel like they were real people, fleshed out beyond the scopes of what was explicitly written. I've read that exact plot half a dozen times in fanfiction, but it doesn't work with original characters because you need to care about them first to care about the story they find themselves in.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Bahni Turpin, and they were incredible with their character voices and delivery of some of the lines, but unfortunately they still couldn't bring me to care about this book.
If I hadn't been reading it to achieve Pagebound's Mardi Gras + Carnival 2026 readalong, I would have definitely DNF'd this book.
