I read this cause I wanted a light fall romance, which it is. But this has no substance or any redeeming qualities. The writing is very basic, the plot is every Hallmark movie. It was cute but I din't create the atmosphere of coziness for me. If you want something really light and quick you will enjoy this.

such a bad idea to read this book cause I'm already 🤏🏻🤏🏻🤏🏻 close to dropping out of uni and opening a café-bookshop that sells cardamom buns and cookies😂 (pov I'm in my last semester and finishing my thesis)

I absolutely fell in love with this book! Anne's writing and especially this story is transcendent through time. This book could have been as well written yesterday. It was way ahead of its time! The writing is very easy to read through. It's vivid and the prose makes each scene feel alive, you can clearly picture the scenery, Wildfell hall, the country and the sea!
As for the plot and the characters, I love how Anne clearly draws the line between love and abuse. In contrast with her sisters, she names the abuser as the villain of the story and has no mercy towards him. She also does an excellent job, in my opinion at least, reflecting the complicated feelings a victim of domestic, financial and phycological abuse has towards her oppressor.
Helen, our main heroine, is a deeply religious, loving and forgiving person. I loved how realistic her character progression was as she realised her husband is the villain. At first we see her have an "I can fix him" mentality, but as the circles of abuse continue on, she breaks free. Revolutionary for a time that divorce was illegal. I don't want to give the story away so I'll say that the ending wasn't a regression of her growth but rather a reflection of her dutiful character and her way out to truly gain freedom.
Gilbert, what can I say...I love a simp and I love a man who knows how to apologise. He is an arse and a coward at times but I think he makes up for it in the end! This is a long review but I haven't loved a book this much in a long time!
