Curious if anyone else here sneaks in reading while they're at work š I'm a part-time customer service rep at a grocery store while I'm in college and I always bring a book to my shifts. Usually I can hide behind the counter and read when there's no customers or anything else to do. Do you bring a book? Ebook? Earbuds for an audiobook? Or do you have to begrudgingly wait till you get home? š

Sadly this wasn't for me. It has nothing to do with the book, I think it's actually a good one. The writing is solid. I liked the character development, the world building but the plot was a bit predictable. I don't know if I didn't like it cause I don't vibe with insta lust or cause I've read/watched this storyline over and over that I'm bored of it. This is very much what I would define as smutty romanatasy, I prefer either smut set in a fantasy world or fantasy with a light romance storyline.

I am always so intrigued by the thought of dance cards š Like⦠did ladies really show up to a ball with a tiny social agenda in hand? Or even the idea of adding persons to the list during the ball itself, like having a literal to-do list for a dance is both wildly organized and slightly unhinged, and I kind of love it.

Firstly, the audiobook is just a pleasure to listen to. But also, if you're struggling with the dialect, I found that being able to hear the tone/cadence helped a lot with my understanding.

An Apology: I apologize for the inaccessibility of these resources to folks outside of the US, and for failing to think internationally in this space today.
Update: I fucking hate that knowledge isnāt free. I hate that we live in a system where joy and knowledge often have a price tag. My point in posting was to point out that authors and artists suffer because of this. Most authors arenāt wealthy, and not compensating them affects their livelihood.
Authors should receive compensation for their books as long as this capitalist hellscape exists, and consent is important.
If money is a barrier, take these steps:
Utilize your local library (you can always request that they add a book to their collectionāthis is good for authors).
If your library wonāt add a copy or you need the book immediately, get a non-resident library card at a library with the book.
There are online non-profit libraries where you can apply for cards.
Borrow a copy from a friend or community member.
Apply for a review copy.
There are so many options that respect authors.
