Decked Out

Okay so I know this topic might have the most engagement potential and maybe is kinda dumb but it's something I think about, so...

I'm just saying, I love a deckle(d) edge.

I think they're underrated and unfairly maligned in today's world. First of all, there are a lot of people who don't even know what a deckled edge is and think that they've purchased a damaged or poorly manufactured book when they receive one, and then there's people who know what it is but hate them because they think it looks shabby. I'm always seeing deckle haters out there 😱

But I love it and I think it looks great! 🥰 More than that, I love what it represents, which is ode to original book making/papermaking process when it was done by hand with a deckle and that was how all books were made and thus how all books looked (pre 19th century). I just think it's cool that publishers (namely Penguin) still pay tribute to that heritage.

Anyway, If there's a book I want to read and I find out an edition with a deckle edge is available, I'll probably buy that edition. So that's it, basically. Deckled edges are underrated, and I like them. So there 💅

Julia Phillips

Julia Phillips became a Hollywood player in the freewheeling 1970s, the first woman to win the Best Picture Oscar as co-producer of The Sting. She went on to work with two of the hottest young directorial talents of the era: Martin Scorsese (Taxi Driver) and Steven Spielberg (Close Encounters of the Third Kind). Phillips blazed a trail as one of the very few females to break into the upper echelons of a notoriously chauvinistic industry. But for all her success, Phillips remained an outsider in the all-male Hollywood club. She had a talent for deal-making, hard-balling and wise-cracking, and a considerable appetite for drink, drugs, and sex. But while these predilections were tolerated and even encouraged among 'the boys', Phillips found herself gradually ostracized. Saw Chloe's instagram post yesterday about the adaptation of Boys of Tommen by Prime. How are we feeling ? Are we ready ? to see Johnny and Shannon on the TV screen ? to share them with others who probably doesn't know there was a book that it was adapted from.... Personally I am very excited to see how they will ruin this haha. If you are excited to see them on-screen, I am happy for you. I wish I was as happy as you too.😭😭
