If I was able to put my thoughts together better I’d make a super thoughtful post about how uncomfortable this book is making me, and then how that’s actually a good thing because it’s making me really think about meat consumption and the industry in general, and then about the double standard of everything in this book and how it directly mirrors the meat market (at least in the us). And after I finish I feel like I’ll either become a vegetarian and/or start researching ethical meat production.

The entire first chapter made me EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I can tell this will be a book that’s gonna stick with me for a while.

I thought this was a wonderful book about the death industry. It really made me think more about what I personally want for myself when I die and what I want for my family members. The book was funny while still remaining serious enough to capture the importance of figuring out what a good death means for yourself and urging the reader to confront their own mortality and eventual death.

(I also thoroughly loved learning about different cultural death practices and how the introduction of the funeral industry has really changed the way we interact with death.)

  • handles to hellos: come say hiii 👋

i keep seeing the same friendly handles in quests and threads. let’s do a quick roll call so we can match handles to readers. zero pressure, typos welcome. new folks and lurkers, jump in haha!

    here’s me: i’m bookbunny96

    1. reading superpower: balancing a paperback on a sleeping baby.
    2. favourite genre/trope: cozy mysteries, true crime like thrillers, atmospheric whodunnits, and i’m sloooowly loving cozy fantasy (big thanks to Seema’s quest)
    3. chaotic book opinion: audiobooks at 1.5x absolutely count as reading.

    template:

    1. reading superpower or chaotic habit
    2. favourite genre or trope
    3. chaotic book opinion or fun fact

    your turn. go!!
