I suggest that everyone who’s planning to read the OUABH trilogy needs to and must read the Caraval series first. I know many people have said they’re able to read the whole story without too much confusion, but trust me, they’re missing out big time. Reading Caraval will help you understand the events in this trilogy on a much deeper level since both series take place in the same universe, and the events of Caraval happen chronologically before OUABH.
I wasn’t really engaged with the first book until I was almost 90% through it, when things finally started getting exciting. It’s not that the story was slow-paced, I just wasn’t completely drawn into it at first.
The magic in this book leans more toward a fairytale vibe, whereas Caraval felt much more magical to me. Maybe that’s because OUABH takes place in the Magnificent North, while Caraval is set in the Southern part.
The ending was a huge cliffhanger that immediately made me want to pick up the second book.
Anyways, I absolutely love Evangeline as a character. I was even inspired to dye my hair rose gold because of her. ♡

I’d say I enjoy reading the trilogy and knowing this book written both in Scarlett and Donatella’s perspectives make my excitement goes up even in reality it was majorly taken from Tella’s side.
The ending somewhat feels kinda rushed and I hate Scarlett’s love triangle little drama and how Tella just keeps being back and forth between Legend and Jacks.
I’d say I didn’t enjoy this as much as I enjoy the previous two, but I could say this is still a good one. Besides, Scarlett’s power is similar with Jacks’s which can control people’s emotions, that in my opinion, making it kinda boring.
Everytime they talk about Scarlett’s magical dress or Tella’s collection of breathtakingly beautiful dresses, I always got distracted by thinking I want them too. 😅

As someone who casually does tarot reading sometimes, I’m intrigued to try flipping off those Fates cards from Deck of Destiny and make them predict my future (I need my own Oracle).

What an easy read and every chapter ends either on a cliffhanger or revealing new surprises. The kind of book you can easily finish in one sitting.
I was kinda annoyed about how unrealistic Scarlett would sacrifice herself and everything without any doubt for Tella. And how she imagined she would get that happily ever after ending with the count when she knows very well that their wedding was arranged by her evil father.

Not really my cup of tea. Perhaps I just couldn’t make sense with the recurring metaphor of “Burung yang Tertidur” and what the author was trying to convey through it.

This feels too flat considering the lead is griefing over her late boyfriend and she’s just annoying. SAM. DESERVES. BETTER. 😌

It was a really hard read, I had to hold myself from throwing out my guts. Buku gila. Poor Natsuki, anyways. 😟
