(I searched if anyone has posted something like this, so forgive me if it’s been discussed.)
How do y’all feel about mean reviews?? Personally, I think it’s unnecessary to bash a book/author if it didn’t suit your personal tastes. Like, you can say you didn’t like something without being an a-hole.
Edit: I’d like to clarify I don’t mean negative reviews, I think those are absolutely necessary. What I mean is saying stuff like “you’re stupid if you liked this” or “how did anyone enjoy this” because I think insulting other readers doesn’t foster the judgement free zone we want these apps to have.

I'm looking for books that feel like the man of steel movie and especially its trailers: following an outsider trying to find his place in this world, raising questions on social responsibility and belonging, melancholic but also with a deep love for this world that shelters him, appreciated in such a way as only an outcast could.

Have you ever been listening to music while reading and suddenly read the same word as the lyric playing? Have you ever been introduced to someone who happens to have the same name as the main character in your current read? What about a date or time being mentioned in a book and it either IS that date/time or that's your birthday or other personally significant day?
This happens to me all the time! Would love to hear any amusing anecdotes or ✨spooky✨ stories of coincidences that you've experienced!

So I've had this on my mind for a while, more and more lately, books that are written by straight authors mainly for a straight audience have started having more queer side characters. That can be a straight romance, or any other genre where the plot rly doesn't revolve around relationships, not even a romantic b plot, which I would consider can also be marketed primarily to straight people
I don't hate that, but I feel like you can tell when it's a queer character in a straight book, and when it's not. I read beach read by Emily Henry and Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood and they both had queer couples (lesbian aunts and teacher × college student but gay respectively) and as much as I love those books and those authors, the queerness didn't feel realistic. I don't wanna point fingers and say oh it was just there for representation, I have much more faith in the aforementioned authors, but it definitely felt... a little wonky. I have to mention here Olive in the love hypothesis is also a bit queer, she's demisexual, but I didn't like how that was explored as an aroace person. We literally got a label, and vry few mentions later on
But then I've also read a lot of books from Fredrik Backman, all contemporary fiction, no main romance. He's had from minor to major queer characters, gender non conforming, bi, lesbian couple, and they feel much more authentic than my previous examples. Backman is a straight man, his books don't have main queer topics I wouldn't say there's marketing for the lgbtq community specifically for his books, but his queer characters feel like normal characters who just happen to be queer, while the others feel like /queer characters/
I like that queerness is becoming a lot less taboo in more recent years to the point authors can just write them to exist in their stories, instead of making a whole deal out of it, but there is definitely a difference in the type of representations you'll see. Has anyone else noticed this? Are there any great 'straight' books with good queer characters you've read? (I rly liked the lesbians in anxious ppl, it was so unapologetic even my slightly homophobic grandma wasn't a big fan of the focus their relationship got 😭😭)

I checked in the club to check if there was a post about this but didn't find any so i decided to ask. I just saw a video about i who have never known men. And there were comment that were like "thanks for the spoiler" mind you, The book came out 10+ years ago same with a video about wicked.🤦♀️
So i was wondering. When does it become YOUR problem if u see a spoiler. and after how long does spoiler alerts stop?
I feel like after 6 months u just cant expect people to put spoiler alerts. (Ofc in book apps like pb its a different situation). Yes, it would be nice if they did put a spoiler alert But still, U cant excpect people to put spoiler alerts for a movie, tv show or a book after that long. If u haven't read or seen it then it become your problem. Your responsibility to avoid spoilers.🤷♀️ and ik u cant avoid spoilers u dont know about because u weren't warned but still, idk.
Lord of the rings for example, it came out in 1954. 71 years ago!!! I just cant excpect people to put spoiler alerts for it. Or wicked (30 years ago). Or i who have never known men (also 30 years ago). Like ik that there might be peopel new to it or didn't know about or anything really. but idk it seems a bit......Idkkkkk 😂🫠😩
What do yall think? 👀

I am finding the accent of this specific narrator so difficult to comprehend that I’ve taken the book out in both audiobook and e-book form so I can follow along on my kobo as I listen 😬
