Recs if you like Brainwyrms...

Reading suggestions for the Trans Rights Readathon! (Any year of course). Books with trans characters of any label (or any non-cis gender identity) by trans/non-cis authors. I have not read all the books in this list. Feel free to name your fave books by trans authors in the comments!

I tried to include most books I know or that have been recommended that either have transfem, transmasc or nonbinary main characters. I only add first in series!

Works in the speculative, fantasy, science fiction, and horror genres by authors who are not cisgender! Two spirit, nonbinary, trans, genderfluid, and other gender diverse authors count!

Book titles that represent reasons you might go to the doctor, what you might say to each other, or what treatments might be offered to cure your ailments. It's up to you to decide what is what😉

(This is not a commentary on these books or authors! The focus of this list is purely on the titles---but if you find a favorite new read here, I'd love to know🤭)

Horror books by trans, Two Spirit, nonbinary, et al authors (may or may not include trans* characters).

This is a collection of recommendations for people who want to get into extreme horror/splatterpunk without feeling pressured. Have fun, stay safe, and remain scary!!

Creepy books made better because there are queer characters

Horror books to read just for the aesthetic

Botanical horror is great and all, but have you ever thought about all the horrors scuttling beneath the leaves?

Horror that features bugs (insects and arachnids - argue about whether shellfish should be involved in the comments) as a major antagonist.

Horror and thriller stories that prominently feature trans characters, across age groups and sub-genres. 🔞

Recommendations welcome!

✦ I have not read all of these books - if you notice anything that seems to be mis-labeled/mis-placed on this list, please let me know! ✦

I started this list based on feedback from the community, my sincere gratitude for all the feedback 🙂‍↕️ I got so many replies to a request, I thought they need to be documented for everyone. Will be adding books I read; more recs are always welcome as well. Trans, enby, anyone not cis writing horror stories about not-cis MCs may join these ranks.

Call me Ishmael for this is my white whale

Call me a monster? Have it your way 🤷‍♀️ Queer characters who become something wild, feral, misunderstood--and maybe also a literal creature.

Suggestions welcome!
