every struggled to find actual lesbian/sapphic books when at the library or bookstore? so did I!

bc of said struggle, I started to curate a personal list of books that either has lesbian MCs and/or featured a primary sapphic romance.

i haven't read all of these, but I do try my diligence in confirming that they meet the above perimeters, since many books claim to be sapphic when they're not. this is an ever updating list, only fiction for now!

Basically, a huge list of every book I ever heard features sapphic characters.

I have not read all of these, so I cannot be sure of the amount of the time on page of the sapphic characters or of the quality of the books.

Some of these I do not plan to read at all, since they are not my style. If you feel like a book doesn't belong here, let me know.

africanfuturism & afrofuturism see african and african-diasporic writers (respectively) explore Black culture, history, mythology and power through new futures, technologies, and speculative imaginings. these books offer a glimpse into afrofuturist & africanfuturist worlds.

Any book with an mc over 30, whose character arch involves themes common in coming of age stories like, questioning their upbringing or experiencing some aspect of the world/ relationships/ common experience for the first time or learning who they truly are/ what’s important to them/ being themselves authentically for the first time ect.

books that engage with water as a way to explore migration, multispecies kinship, race, capitalism, transatlantic slavery, and more. stories that take place in, on, or around the water. coastlines, swamps, rivers, maritime histories, and the oceanic.

Sometimes there are books with terrible intersex rep (as reported by the intersex community) so I have tried to keep those books off this list. Please let me know if you have recs (or anti-recs) in the comments.
