I would like to respectfully suggest State of Paradise by Laura van den Berg. I love this author and this was one of my favorite reads of 2025.
I have a feeling that I will find more for you if I browse my physical shelves.

Ooh I love this! Have you read any ted chiang? I feel like "Exhalation" by him has a lot of short stories that would fit this prompt
