a minha saudade portuguesa
saudade
"a pleasure you suffer, an ailment you enjoy." - manuel de melo
stories in english about the experiences of the portuguese diaspora. steeped in memories of yearning for what might never be again, saudade is impossible to translate, yet inherent to the portuguese spirit.

This is such a beautiful and specific list! I think as a part of the Indo/Eurasian diaspora, I'll find a lot to connect to here. Thank you so much for curating this and sharing.
aw farron thank you so much! it really is so special how a lot of us from different cultural backgrounds can find so much common ground in our diaspora experiences? just having that shared connection as people separated from our homeland brings a lot of us together in beautiful and unexpected ways
OOOOH omg so cool! i have very little experience exploring the portugese diaspora, this seems like a great starting point for me! bookmarking for the future đ€©đ€©đ€©
AW YAY this makes me so happy to hear! i hope you find some enjoyable stories đ„°
do you have any favorites within these picks? đđ
i really need to get on reading all of them LMAO đđ»ââïž but iâm a really big fan of katherine vazâs work đ„ș sheâs the first portuguese-american who has had her work put into the library of congress and sheâs written a lot about our specific community here in california as well! i found fado really cool for that reason, and it was a short story collection, so super easy to breeze through imo!!
you just made a list for my mom's next birthday gifts!!!! (I buy my mom books I want to read đ) This makes me miss visiting my family in Portugal so much :(( (time to put on my fado playlist on repeat and stare at the ceiling)
aw i love that so much đ„č i hope theyâre reads that you both can enjoy and that bring you both together!! đ also you are truly so real every day i am just BEGGING to get back to terceira and pico đđđ
omg you're from os Açores, my family is from the North close to Barcelos (Porto)!!
how cool omg!!! iâve always wanted to visit the mainland, and the north really is so underrated đ„č
My heart is so happy seeing a list around saudade, truly such a beautiful portuguese word đ Thank you for putting these together!!
it really is so special how intrinsically all of us tugas feel connected to the emotion of saudade, but how rare stories centered around it can be đ„ș i hope you enjoy these reads!!đ
