context for this list: most of these books are pretty straight-forward historical fiction novels, but there is the occasional sprinkle of fantasy, magical realism, and/or supernatural elements. and, of course, anywhere from a little bit to a lot of cannibalism. several of these titles are based on real events such as the Donner Party, the Cold War, and more than one shipwreck. some of these books are listed here because they exist within a context of colonial violence which thrived on sensationalized stories of cannibalism. this list is for anyone who enjoys history or just weird little messed up stories.
