Danish Classics
A collection of Danish classics that have mostly been translated into English. I oriented myself mainly with a list provided by Gyldendal. This list is far from finished. If you know of any Danish book, that is considered a classic, that I missed, just leave a comment.

hahaha that's crazy, how did you not notice? personally, i think the danes write everything a bit weird and we write it normally so maybe that's why you didn't notice😌 and i googled it and there is a danish translation! but honestly it's a bit redundant when it's basically the same, except you might get thrown of by a few "må"s
I think maybe because it wasn't nynorsk? Idk, there were a few "kanske" and such, and I just thought "hey they are keeping it real close to the original, how neat!" 🥲 I found the copy in the library, apparently a norwegian language print by a danish publisher 🤷🏼♂️
oh yes, if it was nynorsk you would've been able to tell. i'm just surprised because i always recognise danish ahahah, but to be fair some norwegian classics are pretty close to danish as well
Yeah probably a combination of me not really picking up how many of the words are norwegian, because I understood them all, and the fact that it was published in 1890 😅 Things have happened to both languages since!

the amount of times that i didn't realise immediately that what i was reading is norwegian and not danish is a little embarrassing xD
I was inspired to make this list by Swedish Classics by @grimbl who was inspired by Norwegian Classics by @Marith who was in turn inspired by Spanish Classics by @amalgama ✨️
Also like full disclosure, I'm not Danish, I just happen to have lived in Denmark for a bit as a teenager and learned to love the language and the country during that time, to the point that Denmark is my home of choice (although I'm not currently living there). I have a very present German accent in Danish 🙂↕️

I looooove this! (Haven't read any of these) - i dont know how to read "classic" danish literature without feeling like I'm back in folkeskolen.... any you'd recommend? ☀️
I also don't really know how to read Danish classic literature without feeling like I'm back in 10. klasse at the efterskole I attended (which is the only type of Danish school I attended). I have only read Hans Christian Andersen's fairytales, Ørneflugt by Henrik Pontoppidan and some of Naja Marie Aidt's work. I think checking A Fortunate Man by Pontoppidan out could be a good starting point (it's called Lykke-Per in Danish). There is also a movie on Netflix (at least there was back in 2021). (This might get a little to folkeskolen-agtig as a feeling, but I think it's really interesting to compare Andersen and Pontoppidan, because their work beautifully shows the arv og miljø discussion. Nature vs nurture is the English term for that I think).
