An excellent memoir told through graphics!
I think my experience was probably dampened by the fact that the printing of my copy was of relatively poor quality, which was unfortunate.
The film is also a fantastic watch, would recommend!!

This was a difficult read, as it felt like it really dragged and I did feel bored for a good portion of reading this book. However, discussing it with people really did help to illuminate the interesting aspects of the book and made me appreciate it more. Huzzah for book clubs!

Jeni's story is so powerful and incredible to read! I love how strong an advocate she's been for people with DID and getting justice! I have an upcoming podcast episode reviewing the multiplicity representation (I give it 5/5 for representation!).
Personally, I very much would have preferred this book without the inclusion of Dr George Blair-West. In my opinion, he very much let his ego overshadow Jeni's story, and should have stepped back and stopped pushing his own agenda onto the book. While some of what he says is useful, it's interspersed with irrelevant details or completely unfounded personal opinion presented as fact, and I find that incredibly troubling. Would largely recommend skipping his chapters.

I enjoyed how unhinged it was and the homoerotic tensions masked beneath the heterosexual affair.
But it was relatively average if you're not a big Virginia Woolf fan. Still, fun pretentious literary fiction!

Amazing book, I think anyone and everyone vaguely interested in psychology should read this. Fantastic insight into the cultural differences in psychology and the impact of colonisation and ongoing colonial violence on actually being able to make systemic mental health care changes.

I really enjoyed this book.
While I totally understand where some people may not like it for a variety of reasons, McCurdy's writing style has always resonated with me and this book is no exception to that. It's not going to be for everyone, but it is an excellent book.

This is a book I think everyone should read. I have many thoughts about every essay, which are just adding into the thoughts presented. It's important to acknowledge our place in the ongoing colonial project of Australia, and the everyday violence it inflicts on First Nations people.

The only thing this book has going for it is that it's easy to read.
Otherwise, the plot is nonsensical and the characters and incredibly flat. The fantasy book sections rarely related to the "real life" sections at all; it seemed like the author didn't have a solid enough idea for either a modern romance or a romantasy and so went for a combination instead. It felt very much like the very first draft, particularly with the consistency errors throughout. The essay at the beginning sets you up to expect something this book absolutely does not deliver on. It was hugely disappointing, as I loved the premise and I adore mermaids. Wouldn't recommend.
