Research has found that plants react to touch, in like, SUPER significant ways. Plants that are touched for prolonged periods of time, or consistently over time, fundamentally change their genes. And quickly! They grow shorter, more stout, with thicker bases and stems. They go on the defensive due to being touched, implying that they don't LIKE being touched.

"When touched a planet will essentially activate it's immune system. ... Whatever the situation, touch a plant and it will take note. Most often by becoming incredibly stressed and defensive. Most plants don't appear bothered when we step or them or pluck a flower, but we now know they bristle internally with all the force of a startled porcupine or a spooked stallion. Plants are fully aware of our contact with them and will rearrange their lives to respond to such treatment."

I'm so sorry, all the plants of the world. 😭

Two trans men living in a dangerous and oppressive world find each other and face monsters.

Early in reading Chromatic Fantasy I jokingly commented, “I love yaoi.” I love fantasy, graphic novels and manga for the same reason I love poetry, because some emotions seem to only make sense to me through other lenses, through allegory and dreams and trying to bring the audience to that place without the vulnerability of being literal. As a queer and trans person – and a survivor of abuse—who came out well before the “representation matters” mantra, I’ve always pulled together the things I found strength in like a patchwork. I actually often find myself bouncing off “positive” or “realistic” portrayals of queerness, particularly of young people, a sort queer mundane where we appear on sitcoms and Hallmark movies. I have never once believed that “we are just like everyone else.” Fuck that, it is magical to be queer. Queer people build and our own realities. Chromatic Fantasy builds its reality in similar ways. It doesn’t follow rules. I could imagine many cisgender folks, and also those who are simply not that interested in emotional allegories, could struggle with this one. But it felt truer than true to me. It felt like being at the punk rock flea market and the Renaissance Faire. For every tangent, joke, or reference made, I immediately felt a kinship, a moment similar to something I’d lived when I was younger.

H.A. wears many artistic influences on his sleeve: medieval tapestry, stained glass, manga, and, if I had to hazard a guess, Don Bluth. H.A.'s art is a treat to look at and not quite like anything else I've ever seen.

Honestly, I don’t want to call out too many of the story things I felt were brilliant in this review because I don’t want to spoil the surprise. I will say I love how the portrayal of sex and t4t love is so joyous but also raunchy extremely funny in a very human way.

Mind the trigger warnings. They're laid out clearly at the beginning of the book.

Ah yes, I too believe that Kermit is gay and Miss Piggy is his boyfriend’s drag persona. 😌 lol

    E-Book: Pre-read thoughts & confessions.

I made a post a while ago talking about how scared I was of my mooties who are reading more than 2 books at once.

    But now...now I get it😭😭😭😭

I've been wanting to read this for a couple of months ever since a booktoker recommended it in a like "thrillers where I was shocked/enticed" video.

I placed it on hold around the 29th so I'm actually kinda shocked I got it so quickly. I'm actually really curious about this book- the premise of it seems so interesting and unique, and I'm wondering even now on the first page how tf will she get out of this situation.

    Well, time to start reading!!🤩
