As a kid I read Nancy Drew books like I was running out of time. I also loved books like the Gallagher series by Ally Carter. If you used to read these types of books yourself - what do you read now, as an adult?
I read fantasy books (sometimes sci-fi) and occasionally light spy / thriller stuff, but I'm still searching for the high that Nancy Drew used to give me 😂 I'm honestly still trying to figure out what my book taste is since I haven't been reading as much as I'd like for sometime now.

Hello all!
I’m traveling overseas and am looking for books to download on the kindle app. It does not have to be free books!
I like romance, action, spy novels, low fantasy, witches, and more. Mostly just keep horror to a minimum.
For romance, I don’t mind smut, but I don’t want to read pure smut. Multiple smut scenes are fine as long as there’s also fluff and things like that.
Thanks guys!

i’m just curious how many of you have a preference on the type of paper that a physical book is printed on— do you enjoy the super clean, crispy white or prefer the creamy, near-yellow pages more?
i generally lean more towards the creamy/natural white paper more. it feels less.. sterile? & hurts my eyes less lol. and it is usually thicker with a tactile feel that i enjoy in my hands
{bonus points for comments/thoughts on sprayed edges or deckled edges for shits n gigs 😛}

I'm part of a book club my local library runs, and I don't know what to do if the current theme of books continues...
For June, it was a non-fiction about some random guy (not famous) who lived in our town and it was his life journey growing up in the town.
And I've just found that July's selection has the same kind of theme. Another non-fiction about some guy growing up in our town 😭
I skipped June because non-fiction is not a genre that excites me and we live in our town, we know what it's like to grow up here. But when I skipped it, the other members were like "Well you're here to try out new genres" and thought I was dropping out of the book club.
Now I kind of feel obligated to take July's book even though I know I won't read it. The books are chosen by the librarians so us members don't choose it and the usual librarian who ran it has had to quit for health reasons
Do I stick it out? Or do I do what the other members assume and quit? 🙈

I had just picked up reading as a hobby and everyone was trying to convince me to read TOG. And to be frank, I judge books by their covers and wasn't very impressed by the series' covers. I kept seeing more fanart and noticed what a big fan base these books had and still have. I finally decided to pick up the first book "Throne of Glass" (bcs everyone said to start with it and I'm honestly so glad I did). No joke, I read the whole book in one sitting. And that might not be very impressive, but for someone who wasn't used to reading for a long period of time, I just couldn't put the book down. I will forever recommend these books.

Today my wife and I continued are tour of London……this is code for I dragged her into a lot of bookstores. We had a wonderful time. Well except for it was hotter than Dante’s seventh circle. When we got to the Waterstones we began working are way up the floor. Waterstones is not air conditioned. When we got to the 4th floor, we were like , “oh, hell no.” I did find several new authors I had not heard of and purchased them.
My favorite stop was Cecil Court. I got to visit Goldsboro books one of my favorite stores in the world. Then we wandered down to a collectible store that had some Terry Pratchett books in the window. We wandered in and I was shocked to see the prices of the Terry Pratchett signed first editions (all of which I already own). This led to a delightful conversation with the store owner who was also a Terry Pratchett fan. When I told him that I read The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents to my class for 15 years he was so happy that I was creating new Terry Pratchett fans and in the United States. It was my favorite part of my whole day.
How about you. What are some of your favorite bookstore or book buying experiences?

I find myself drawn to revisiting some books from my teen years spent in the 90s/early 2000s. Are there books you find nostalgic and want to reread as adults?
Right now, I've got my eyes on: *Emelan books by Tamora Pierce *Animorphs series by K.A. Applegate *Den of Shadows & The Kiesha'ra series by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes *Cirque du Freak series by Darren Shan
Update: I started a list and will take suggestions for books to add! https://pagebound.co/lists/30ff4372-be2e-4d21-97f4-b30b19c77ee9

How many point of view characters do you like in a book? I think my sweet spot is 1-2. When I was younger and had more time and energy, I could read epic fantasies with half a dozen or more POVs, grumbling my way through my least-favorite characters' chapters, but I rarely want to read that sort of book anymore.
I ask because I'm reading an average-length horror novel and it started out seeming like it would have three women as its POV characters, which already felt like a bit much for the length and genre, but it's also given me a couple chapters from one woman's teenage brother's perspective, and one or two from her male friend/crush's perspective. It's too much! The book already feels like its moving too slowly without taking these little side-jaunts into what these men who aren't part of the main action think. At this rate it might as well just be third-person omniscient!
So what is your preference? And does it changed based on genre or book length?
