This was not my favorite. It was really well written and the world building was amazing! But there were just a lot of aspects I didn't personally love. It might be more for other people. But the creepiness factor is there on purpose, I think

I can't decide if this is fascinating or creepily gross- maybe both!

The POV switches that happen even within the same paragraph are a little frustrating, but the story is sweet and the characters are genuine.

DNFing at the end of Part 2 - I think it's time to give myself a break from trying to read and enjoy nonfiction, and admit that I just don't. Thought this had a good chance of keeping my attention because the topic is interesting and I heard Amanda Montell on a podcast and really liked her commentary, but alas this still doesn't work for me. It reads too much like a dissertation or research paper, the 50 pages in was still the introduction! The anecdotes were interesting but I think I'd be better suited to a book that is more a retelling of cult stories than an analysis of them. It's a shame, I was really hoping to get to some of those later modern cult chapters
