I loved the movie but imo Ryland seems a lot... "stupider" in the movie than he does in the book. Obviously that's a side effect from not being able to follow his internal monologue and reasoning, but I feel like even considering that, they made him seem so much more incompetent. It made sense in the movie, like it wasn't a diminishing factor, but it made me a little upset 😂 like no, he's not that bad 😂

3.5 stars. This was good for a debut fantasy novel. The plot was fun, I enjoyed the characters, and I had fun reading it.
There were quite a few things that bugged me and kept me from enjoying it more, other than the typical kinks of a debut book. No spoilers of course, but from the very beginning it was establish that Tristan and Willow are her siblings. Then she keeps referring to them as her “friends.” I was also unsure the entire book if Lor knew her own secret or not.
The book left a lot to be desired and I don’t think I’ll personally continue with the series, but I would still recommend it, especially to people who read primarily YA fantasy and want something a bit more “grown up.”
