Everyone has at least one favorite book from their childhood that they cherish forever, or that one book as a young reader that got you into reading into adulthood? What was yours? (I'll be adding them to my tbr, for real.) My favorite book as a young reader was A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray and her Gemma Doyle Series.

I seriously need more people on this book, or reading Shannon Chakraborty altogether because this specific one got me back into reading, I have a special bond to it x) but I also completely fell in love with the Daevabad universe... anyways, THIS IS NOT TALKED ABOUT ENOUGH. I never knew I needed this, but a main cast of grumpy middle aged/old and retired pirates bickering on a ship to pursue a quest they did not want to follow in the first place ? Loved it. Want more. The mere fact that Amina is 40ish, has a daughter and a bad knee makes her one of my favorite fantasy main characters of all the books I've read, and I wonder if anyone feels the same =)

I’ve been so curious about this for a while and it’s kind of a two part question: 1. What do you count towards the total number of pages? Everything printed (including acknowledgements, author’s notes, appendix, index, etc.) or JUST the actual story? 2. How do you count your % read? The last page you read or the page you’ll start on the next time you read? (i.e. if the chapter ends on page 100 and you stop reading there, do you say you’re on page 100 or 101?) Edit to add: I think I’m asking specifically about reading physical books because digital and audio tends to give the % read!

I really wish i had known that this is chronologically before network effect as i think it would have made network effect even more impactful. You really get to see murderbot starting to realize that interacting with humans isnt so bad, and i think thats a great lead-in to 5. Still a fantastic read and i just adore this universe so much. Loved having some ratthi (he might be my fave of the humans) and gurathin, and whos doesnt love a lil who-done-it in space??
