Okay so... This book was not as bad as and so much worse than i expected at the same time.
My expectations weren't high and that probably played into why I wasn't really that disappointed by the lack of plot. Honestly i think this whole book kinda felt like a smutty fanfic where you don't really care about the attempted plot at the beginning xd
Our main character Violet was one of the most annoying mc that i know. Okay some of the time she was fine and i managed to forget the awfulness but then she saw Xaden and spent the next page thinking about how so very hot and sexy he is even though she clearly hates him.
Talking about Xaden, that guy went from "you are insufferable and i want to kill you" to "omg you're so hot I can't stop thinking about kissing you" in like one scene. Like i truly could not tell you when or why his attitude changes and he decided that it was a good idea to start telling Violet that everything she does is so hot even though he absolutely does not care about her.
Most of the other characters were so bland that i genuinely could not keep up with who was who đand honestly gave up trying after i was supposed to remember them by the last names too. (took me like half of the book to remember that Aetos is indeed Dain but that one might be on me)
This review hasn't been very positive but this book was still surprisingly kind of enjoyableđ€·đŒââïžOnce i stopped caring about the quality, some of the banter and relationships were kind of fun. i did stay up till like 3.30 reading it at least twice (while speeding through bad worldbuilding and cringing so bad at the worst parts of the dialogue) so it can't have been that bad xd

the word "badass" has been used way too many times for my liking and just the setting of this bookđ

I don't usually like being thrown back and forth like a ping pong ball, which is what this book did to me the whole time. People pop up then disappear who knows where, emotions fly back and forth, things happen and then don't happen, explanations that aren't explanations over and over and over again and YET, despite the frustration of it all I enjoyed it. This book is a tease. Its not smooth, and there are lot of questionable little plot holes and inconsistencies that seem to be swept under the rug, but heck this chaotic attempt at a fairytale had me hooked waiting and wanting THE TRUTH..... right up I think until that final tiny bit which I personally view as a cheap and unfulfilling direction for a story to take and which may drastically affect my view of the next book. We shall see.
Please note: I think its a character flaw of mine that I am so desperate for Jacks attention, but I was one of those ones who loved Aaron Warner and that brooding yearn from Shatter Me (I think they have similarities) so please take that into account when reading this review. Sorry not sorry

i was convinced i was gonna give this book the full five stars until the last page.
Okay dont get me wrong the ending isn't bad.. I actually really liked this book, a lot better than the previous one actually. It had a lot going on but in a good way. There were plot twists behind every corner and sometimes it was even a little hard to keep up and grasp the whole story. I loved the way little things were revealed a few at a time. It really did keep me guessing about what the whole story is.
I had maybe seen a few little (or not so little) spoilers and that probably affected my opinion of how things happened. (I was definitely waiting for a certain someone to ruin things for the entirety of the two books and I'm still kinda waiting..) And so the very ending of the book didn't go exactly how I would've hoped/expected and that left me kind of disappointed.
But overall i really enjoyed this book and the way the story moves!
