Does anyone else get unreasonably upset when someone DNFs a book and rates it 1 star because they didnt reach the point of growth in the book? Like, I love books with unlikeable or weird or complicated main characters. That means that for the first half of a lot of books you donāt like them! And for some reason people think this is the author glorifying their thoughts or agreeeing.
I just feel like we need to stop thinking that portraying a mindset means agreeing or glorifying it, and that if a character is problematic it means the book is BAD. And if you canāt make that distinction then maybe you shouldnāt be seeking out books that say they have a problematic or complicated main character or contains things that you donāt agree with. I get upset when a great book gets a one star review because someone couldnāt trust that the character might grow or even that thereās a point being made intentionally by letting them be problematic.
Edit to clarify I am totally fine with DNFing itās the giving a bad rating without even reading the full book OR condemning a book that might be very well written but has a character that they disagree with that annoys me more.

Did everyone see the email from PB? Basically it noted the different and entire types based on how many posts are already in a forum. Which is your preferred adventure?
Stadium concert 200+ Arena show 100-200 Theater set ~50 Underground session <50
I prefer seeing other people's reading journey on books I've already read, vs making my own posts during a read. So theater set and underground session are my favorite. I like seeing the show size grow, if that makes sense.

i was watching a video by Man Carrying Thing on youtube, and he mentioned "depiction does not equal endorsement." this is a statement i wish was more popular with younger readers, especially when they first encounter books with taboo topics, dark romance, etc. things that one might consider to be "dangerous."
anyway my point with this post is to ask if anyone else has an idea or a concept about books and reading as a whole that they wish were more popular?

How did you get into reading? I know maybe a simple question, but I got into reading because of my Godmother, she was a librarian for a school board and always gifted me books for Christmas and birthdays growing up. They would always be different genres and always something i would never choose myself. This made me really appreciate stepping outside your comfort zone to find something you may like (or may not like lol). Last year, we decided to share a read together and again it was something I likely would have not picked up myself, but I was left with that feeling of appreciation for stepping outside your comfort zone and nostalgia for the old traditions manifesting itself in different ways.
So how does your story go? Have you been a reader since before you can remember? Was there a teacher or loved one that showed you the joys of reading? Or did you stumble upon reading later on in life?
Tell me, I'm nosy!!

Any recommendations for ways to annotate? I only ever really did it for academic texts, but now that Iāve become a kobo libra color girlie Iām trying my best to getting into annotating my ebooksā¦.and I canāt help but feel like Iām doing it wrong š
Like, is it okay to just highlight stuff and react to it or make predictions?
