This book makes me sad for Carrie, I had forgotten how bad it really is for her. It’s surprising how well King writes the women of this book, considering his other female characters from this time period are somewhat lacking. I’m enjoying the build up, and it’s unique among his styles.

Poor Haymitch. President Snow remains the absolute worst.

Stephen King’s first and one of his best. Thanks to his wife, it seems he got some pointers about how to write women and girls that unfortunately didn’t carry over into his other works. But ultimately, this is a story about generational trauma, religious fanaticism, and the everyday struggle against our darker human natures.
