I’ve seen fan art and most of it imagines him as white. And I’ve seen a lot of critique of making romance with a white coloniser (that’s a future post).
But I’m confused isn’t he also brown? He has silver hair because of the curse they were dark before and I assumed it was the same with his icey blue eyes? Plus it’s fantasy, can’t he have dark skin and blue eyes?
Since it’s Egyptian/Arabic inspired, I just assumed everyone is brown (whether light or dark-skinned) unless pointed out otherwise.

I endured the 4 precedent books of this series as I heard this one was great but man, I'm starting to think I was deceived... I find it as repetitive and irksome as the rest. Nesta was the only character I liked as she's the only lucid one (come on, those High Fae are the embodiment of a red flag) but I'm starting to fear she'll end up siding with them. Is it worth pushing through? I really wanted to like this series, I swear 😭

This duology took me completely by surprise. I loved the first book but was completely captivated by the second. There’s not much for me to complain about or criticize; I felt totally immersed in Hashem’s beautiful prose and compelling characters. She has an incredible way of weaving crackles of humor into what could have been mundane scenery descriptions. I found myself laughing often at Essiya’s random threats/insults. The additional POV’s added depth to the found family and main character relationships. We experience the FMC step into her power and slowly embrace who she truly is (which is not even revealed until the very end), and also get a great plot twist for the other MC. I enjoyed all the political aspects, appreciated the detail that went into each fight/battle scene (this book was way more graphic than the first, which was honestly awesome), and had no idea how it was all going to end. The ending had me in tears for the last few chapters. I had to pause reading at one point because I couldn’t see through my tears (last time that happened to me was KOA). I can’t wait to re-read this later on, and have already annoyingly recommended it to anyone that will listen. 💛

holy political intrigue. man, that took a lot of effort to wrap my head around ngl but so worth it!!! sylvia and arin are such interesting narrators with such different outlooks, literally brings all the inconsistencies and all the shock factor. for that reason though, the romance feels a bit stockholm syndrome-y but hell i am invested anyways.
i feel for sylvia so much, isolating herself this whole time only for things to pan out like THAT? unwell but feeling so much relief that i waited to read this book until the duology was finished bc THAT ENDING HOLY COW
