  • Episode Thirteen Audiobook!!!

Highly recommend listening to the audiobook instead of just reading the print for Episode Thirteen! The full cast narration + sound design choices + epistolary format of the book just all work so well together.

  • More Haunted House Books

Haunted houses (and especially sentient houses) are one of my all time favourite tropes! I think these would be great additions to the list

House of Salt and Sorrow by Erin A Craig House of Root and Ruin by Erin A Craig Nestlings by Nat Cassidy Phantasma by Kaylie Smith The Witchwood Knot by Olivia Atwater We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer The Skull by Jon Klassen (this is a kid's picture book based on an old folktale, but it's really cute) Linghun by Ai Jiang (anthology novella) Rose/House by Arkady Martine (scifi noir novella) Delicious Monsters by Liselle Sambury The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde (novella) Horrid by Katrina Leno The House With Good Bones by T Kingfisher Home Before Dark by Riley Sager The Supernatural Enhancements by Edgar Cantero These Fleeting Shadows by Kate Alice Marshall Path of Thorns by AG Slatter

  • The Spellshop
    Thoughts from 22% (Chpt. 8)

Having only dipped my toe into the cozy fantasy genre, I don’t have a very thorough grasp of this group yet, but I sometimes feel something lacking.

After starting this book I’m realizing that it’s some added complexity in the world building!

I think some of the other cozy fantasy’s I’ve read have felt very simple or one note.

I think with a plot that feels low stakes I need something for my brain to latch onto, and it looks like for me it’s incredible and adorable and utterly lovable world building!

    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

"I expected a lot of things from this marriage, but not love. It's Isaak's fault for loving me first and I am a fool because I have allowed it. The fact that it has found me, weakened me, makes me incandescently angry. I think of him, always, and nothing could enrage me more."

Absolutely delighted to see that this is getting sequels because I just finished it and my only thoughts are a jumble of: give me more! and yaaaaaaaaaaaaas and 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️

Obviously going straight into my top reads of 2025.

Reasons you should put this on your radar:

    • you love a Fantasy world with interesting world-building and politics that have sprung up because of the specific limitations and implications of the magic system
    • you like a heaping helping of yearning with one eyeroll's worth of idiots-to-lovers
    • you like messy, complicated relationships as can only stem from people who intimately know one another and have had their hands all up in each other's viscera
    • you like evolving knowledge of the magic and lore that directly impacts current events
    • you like knights in armor and their battle scenes
    • you like a book that gets you invested then holds your emotions in a vice
    • you like a book that's functionally a standalone

Also-- excuse you. Who gave you the right to be so gorgeous?! Someone get that cover artist all the contracts ASAP.

  • Let's grow this collection!

I'm so delighted this quest is live and populated! My goal is to curate a reading list of all various speculative worlds filled with queer characters and gender-diverse cultures. So to that end, I've got a few questions for you:

    1. What's your favorite LGBTQ+ book in a fantasy/sci-fi/speculative genre?
    2. Which upcoming book of the same sort are you most excited for?

And, if you're a long-time reader: 3) Which book would you recommend a first-time reader of the genre? 4) Which hidden gem would you recommend for a fellow seasoned reader?

Thanks for joining, and I can't wait to read and discuss books with you all!
