Inspirations for the Psycho-Pass anime
This is a list of books mentioned in Psycho-Pass season 1. The series tackles criminality in a dystopia painted as a cyber-utopia. Should one serve for the collective good? How thin the shell of one's identity can get until they rebel?

I cannot imagine how the home environment he grew up in would be like. Everything he had to manage from such a young age sound exhausting. I can also see why people have been criticising Vuong of overusing one-liners in his writing. It's the first book of his that I am reading, so I can't compare it to his poetry and such. However, reading this book as a letter, a notebook, rather than a polished book on a shelf has made it easier for my reading experience. So I like it so far. Also I don't think he tries to virtue signal or be overly emotional to be performative with his flowery language, but then again I haven't finished it yet. I'm also curious to read about the criticisms of Vietnamese people who live(d) in Vietnam after I finish it.
I would love to know if anyone has critic recommendations who tackles his books :)

An introduction to the Classics, these books are part of the cultural zeitgeist or the 'canon' that many would recognize. Look for more niche titles in later Starter Pack volumes.

A collection of the pilot books for popular series, for those of us who love to follow a character's journey for as long as an author will let us! Some of the below series have heavily debated starting points and book read orders--in those cases the pilot was selected based on what seems to be the most popular approach.

For me it's the Wimpy Kid Series. I bought like 8 books till I was 11 and now they're taking up space. I keep them even though I don't read them anymore because they were the first "real" books I transitioned into from Tinkle (which was like a little comic/magazine). So now I can't bear to part with them.
Looking back at Gregg Heffley as a 21 year old, I can tell you that boy is a certified sociopath and my boy Rowley deserves better. Justice for Rowley 😔 I'm not usually the one to advocate for beating up a kid (having been a kid who has tasted quite a few lashings. Don't worry guys. I turned out fine. I think. I'm not sure. Maybe not. It's a cultural thing) but Gregg could have used some.
Some other "real" books that I read, and I think I was the only one who read them were the Secrets of Droon Series. I never bought them but during the library period in my school, I'd devour them. There was a magic carpet. And a rainbow staircase to another world.
Anyway. What are some books you don't read anymore but refuse to part with?

What made it so disappointing? And did it ruin the first book or the rest of the series for you?
I thought of this question because I’ve read so many reviews from people who were disappointed with Misrule by Heather Walter and chose to ignore it entirely, treating the first book as a standalone instead.

I am very disappointed by this book. Maybe it's the constant advertisements of it up until it was released building a hype or the fact that I read Babel and Yellowface right before this and expected a similar, gripping tale. The criticisms Babel (which I loved) had for being too "lecture-y" are so much more fitting for Katabasis. The way it is written has an undertone of assuming that the reader is extremely dumb. One good thing about Katabasis is that its pacing is better than Babel's first half. Other than that, the plot loses all its interesting sides pretty quickly and the characters are plain. I would not have finished it if it weren't an audiobook. I wonder how the reception would be like if this was her debut novel.
