"That a life in which you are surrounded by good people is a successful life. Although not of the generally recognized type, but I can say that every day, thanks to their presence, is a success.” Just this.

I'm currently using Goodreads, StoryGraph, Fable and Pagebound so I find it overwhelming to update everywhere after I finish a book! But I'm trying to use only pagebound and StoryGraph for now, one for conversations and the other for stats. So I'm wondering how many do y'all use and any other bookish apps other than trackers that's you find useful?

What are some books and/or book series you are interested but can't get yourself to read? I've been meaning to read Les Misérables for years now, but it's so long. I did start, and loved what I read, but dropped it, and never had the courage to pick it up again. 🥲 Babel and Poppy War are very daunting for me. I keep seeing people talking about PW here, and so I get reminded that I'm curious about it. I also want to read Malazan, but I'm convincing myself that I'll wait a few years until starting it, but I definitely will! 🤣

My sister-in-law was rewatching the movies for the first time in years, absolutely floored by the actual plot and how much she forgot. Then, she told me she’d NEVER read the books, and obviously I said “They’re a train wreck, you need to read them.” So we’re starting a buddy-read! I’m excited to introduce her to the chaos that is the Twilight book 🫶🏼

"And a woman can never be thin enough, that's the problem. It is not seen as too high a price to pay to be hungry all the time or to restrict an entire food group or to spend four nights a week in a Fitness First gym." YESSS 👏👏👏👏 So far, I'm really liking the balance the author has found between humour about some of the choices she has made and deeper conversations, like the quote above!

Romance readers, I simply must know: what is your favorite sub-genre within the sub-genre? If you like historical romance is your go to time travel or road trip or mystery? For my science fiction romance lovers, do you prefer space travel or mars-needs-women? Personally I want my historical to be rom-com with all other tropes and plot points up for consideration.

Hey, Pagebound readers! I've noticed something about book covers that really bugs me: those featuring real people/photographs. Whether it's a face staring out or a posed figure, I get an instant aversion, and I suspect I'm not alone. I can’t quite explain why... maybe it’s too direct or breaks the imagination’s spell? If you also get this reaction, what’s behind it for you? Do you get through it and read the book anyway? The truth is that I've never ever read a book with a cover like that, even though I understand there are many great books behind those covers... I simply can't get past it. Can you help me unpack why these covers turn some people off? What about them clashes with the reading experience? 📚

I have been on Pagebound for a few months now and I genuinely think that Pagebound is such a wonderful idea come to fruition. I’ve been using other bookish apps for years and never felt inclined to post written reviews when I’m done with the books (I feel too intimidated sometimes especially when I feel differently about the books and the book community can be harsh 😰). But on Pagebound, the no pressure ability to post my thoughts at random intervals throughout the book helped me develop the confidence to post reviews on the books I finished reading as well and I’m starting to find joy in that. I’m glad I stumbled upon this site. It’s been magnificent and the community is amazing. Thank you so much!! ☺️

oh dear heavens my progress only grows...a negative correlation to my stamina and energy which is rapidly depleting... the good news is...I don't have to finish today!!! I have a free day at school tomorrow, so I have one more day to get it done with! Hooray! Rejoice!

Personal TBR? Overflowing. Recommendations? Spiraling. Book clubs? Too many. PB quests?? Absolutely amazing… and absolutely unhinging my reading schedule. How do you manage your TBR when your soul screams “read it all!” but time responds with “lol good luck”? 😩

Today I learned that the way in which I vet my authors is, frankly, not enough. So what steps do you take to ensure the people you are financially supporting match your morals and values? And how are you doing this in a timely manner? Please note: I am not asking if you vet your authors, but how. If possible, I'd like to keep the comment section as focused on tips that anyone may want to provide :) ETA: Follow up question, at what point do you feel you’ve done enough research?
