This is an alluring book about moss. True to its title, Gathering Moss, this time Robin Wall Kimmerer invites us to walk in nature and gather the lustrous green carpet of mosses—plants that nature gifts to humans with their divergent shapes and purposes.

This book has remarkably made me reminisce about experiments I conducted during my college years nearly a decade ago—extracting genomic DNA from liverwort tissue. This book feels so nostalgic for me.

Gathering Moss contains scientific information about moss mixed with the author's experiences as a proficient bryologist. But reading this book didn't feel like reading a textbook, it was more of an enlightening and thoughtful read.

The more you turned the pages of Gathering Moss, the more you're amazed by how beautiful their variety is, and the more you realized how wonderful this creature that land provided for humans is, it also led you to respect their existence through the reciprocity they showed to others' lives.

I hold tight to the vision that someday soon we will find the courage of self-restraint, the humility to live like mosses. On that day, when we rise to give thanks to the forest, we may hear the echo in return, the forest giving thanks to the people.

P.S: Say hi to my most fav moss species, Schistostega pennata.

  • Borneo Battles Intensifying Wildfires😰

I want to let you know that a few days ago, the Borneo forest was deliberately set on fire by irresponsible people. They burned it intentionally to expand palm oil plantations. As we know, the Borneo forest is known as the 'Heart of Borneo' because of its vital ecological role and because it’s home to the critically endangered Bornean orangutans.

    News:

    1. Indonesia bolsters troop numbers to combat Borneo wildfires

    2. As El Niño Dries Indonesia, Wildfires Intensify

    3. Indonesian police arrest 72 people suspected of starting forest fires

I’m terribly sad because it’s not just the local residents who are affected by the greed of these irresponsible people, but the forest and the innocent animals are also hit really hard by the impact!

I'm sharing this news because this topic is closely related to this book, and I want to let you know that you can support orangutans by adopting one. I got this link from Twitter (X):

    ⛓️‍💥Adopt An Orangutan

You can choose which orangutan you want to adopt, and soon you'll get an adoption certificate and funfacts about the orangutan you've adopted.

Hopefully the support we give can help make their lives a little bit easier, even though their habitat has already been burned down...

P.S: This is the orangutan I just adopted, his name is Galaksi. He's so adorable, isn't he?🥹

I'm getting bored of my previous username (@baeyipyip) lol even though I loved how meaningful it was. Now I just want something simple, iconic, and nostalgic. This will be my eternal username:

    🪩@rasengan🪩

(Inspired by Naruto—my favourite anime, which means a powerful ninjutsu technique created by Naruto's father, the 4th Hokage (leader), which Naruto inherited.)

  • Changing your username?

I'm thinking of changing my username to include one nickname but if I translate it to English is weird. The nickname is in Portuguese, Pintainho, but translated literally means Chick, an animal I know, but the story behind is funny and I find it cute. Also thinking about using my real name. It's not I don't like it, I just normally prefer using Minnie. Anyway, I wanted to ask what's the meaning behind your username? And if you had to change it to something different but also meaningful what would it be? Edit: Changed from mimilovesreading to pintainho.reads 😌
