  • Book talk (analysis?) Videos

recently, I've been watching videos on YouTube by frankies shelf. If anyone has seen his videos you will get what im trying to say in this post. Im so bad at explaining but I'll do my best.

So, i have been watching frankies video about 13 reasons why and the housemaid is watching. And i was wondering, does anyone have booktubers who do video's like this? Where they talk about ONE book instead of multiple books? And what is that called? Is it analysing Even tho they're just....talking about what happens in the book?

I hope this is An appropriate place to post this and sorry if it not.

And in advance, thank you for awnsering this!<3

EDIT: i think they're called video essays! Not sure tho so I'd appreciate it if anyone could confirm.

  • Where do you "rescue" your books? 🤔😅

I like to say I rescue books rather than by them so that I don't feel bad adding to my physical TBR. 😅😉

So, where do you guys like to get your books? Do you get it from a big flagship store or small bookshop? Do you thrift or browse the local library? Online?

Please share your experience even the name of the shop. It's nice to imagine online friends browsing through their own piece of haven. 😁

I am in Australia and I have found that Big W (kinda like Target) is great for popular titles but 10% usually off market price. I get all my Japanese translated books from them. Kmart is a good place to get books as well, often same price as Big W. ✨️ Great value for boxed set if they have it!

If I can't find the other titles I go to Dymocks or Readings which are big flagships here. Or Amazon if there's a sale.

    As always, happy reading! ✨️✨️

TW (non-exhaustive list): graphic sex, graphic violence, violent consensual sex, brief non-consensual voyeurism, consensual voyeurism, exhibitionism, blood, degradation, mention of pregnancy, mental torture, sexual relations with a sentient plant (?), mind control & ‘womb-fucking’…

this one lacked something the first one had.

the plot line was very straight forward and nothing really happened other than some vigorous sex and another cliffhanger ending…if these were any longer I wouldn’t be as interested in finishing the series because this one was mid.

As much as I enjoy the podcast, this was a pop-history amalgamation- a good jumping point for looking into things further but in my opinion too droll to be a serious collection of facts. Maybe its the history graduate in me but I like history to be serious with lots of footnotes and sources. Still, enjoyable.

(non-exclusive list) TW: graphic sexual content, mentions of past torture, degradation, harmful stereotypes of sex workers, mental illness, body shaming, murder, misogyny, kidnapping & confinement (i may have missed some - not complete list!)

this kind of ate? like low-key?

i read this after watching a rant review by weirdo bookclub and even though i knew the plot and the issues with it, i wanted to give it a try anyway. multiple narrators was a nice touch and gave some more depth to the characters than i assume reading it on the page would have given.

ngl i enjoyed it enough to consider the rest of the series - just hopefully the lost boys learn how to properly smoke cigarettes and dont call it ‘taking a hit’…like who are you, the cops?!?

  • Agatha Christie recommendation

Hello Everyone, I just arrived on Pagebound and the community seems really nice so I'd like to ask you for some recommendations. ✨

I'm looking to read different genres this year and I really want to try one of Agatha Christie's books, but I don't know where to start. I already seen Crime on the Orient Express, And then there were none and Death on the Nil.

If you have some recommendations other than those 3 I would deeply appreciate it! I love a good plot twist and mysteries behind closed doors🫣. And if maybe some of you want to read it together to share thoughts I'm down!

    Have a nice day ! 😄

  • How do you deal with upsetting subject matters in books?

I have a few triggers that, when they appear unprompted in books, can cause me to spiral a bit into an anxious or depressive episode- naturally making reading unappealing because, what if the next book upsets me too?

I have found YA/New Adult Romantasy and silly smutty books can pull me out of that mood - but what do you do when a book upsets you and makes you scared to read again?
