Im not completely hooked yet. Its good but Its not something like “oh yes now I can go home and read six of crows” so I do hope I get more invested into this. I really wanna love it. Maybe its been too long since I’ve read a book with this type of vibe (I don’t even know if I ever have read a book with this vibe lol) or maybe im just burnt out and need a break from humanity to recharge so I can like my hobbies again

  • Funniest reaction/annotation

Hello everyone, I'm curious to know, what's the funniest reaction you've had to something shocking in a book you've read? And for those who make annotations in their books, what's your funniest annotation? I have a few ones, especially in my Percy Jackson books. But most have spoilers out of context so I can't share them. 😅

I found it somewhat spooky! I liked the writing and the atmosphere of the story. I really liked that the world was 1920s but there was easy and frequent travel to the moon. I like the juxtaposition of that world with that kind of technology. There were parts that were genuinely a little creepy, but for the most part it just didn't suck me in. I wish there had been more info about the Alabaster Scholars because they were a little confusing/nebulous to me. I know this is a trilogy and at the time of this review the second one is out. Idk. I likely won't read it.

Am I the only one who does this? Is this weird?

I tend to "humanize" the books I read. It is not serious, and mainly done for shits and giggles, but I kinda treat them like a little creature who is here to tell me a story or teach me stuff. I refer to them as boys/girls (depending on the gender of the author) and if they are thick I call them big boys/girls. When organizing my shelves I talk to them, hold them gently, feel actual love towards them. Today I reorganized my upstairs classic shelves, and I remembered, that One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey had so much sexism and racism, so I put him on prupose between Uncle Tom's Cabin by Beecher-Stowe and Edible Woman by Atwood. Like yes buddy, you messed it up, made me mad with your bigotry, so now I'm punishing you by sticking you between a feminist and an abolitionist :)). Have fun til I decide to reorganize yall :))! I spent like 10 minutes just looking at the shelf giggling about it. Is this really weird, or does someone else do similar stuff?

  • Favourite books in school

I recently had a chat with an old classmate and we got to the topic of books and reading in school. While we both agreed that most of what was read in our classes was boring we both had one or two books we really enjoyed.

So what was your favourite book you read for a class? Also what book did you read in school that you think everyone should read at least once? Not everything has to be about fun and sometimes books that are difficult to get through can be a super important read.

My favourite has to be The visit (Der Besuch der alten Dame) by Friedrich Dürrenmatt a kind of dark comedy. I also think everyone should read Anne Franks Diary at least once. It was a hard read but that makes it so much more important.

  • Mid year check in

We're already almost halfway through the year! How's everyone's reading going? Making progress on any goals? Any standout books so far? Any disappointments so far? What goals are you working on the rest of the year? What books are you most excited to get to?

For myself I've been making good progress on my reading goals. Some of my favorites I've read this year are Piranesi and Chain Gang All Stars. I think my least favorite I've read so far this year was She is a Haunting. Going into the second half of the year I'm hoping to earn more limited time badges and complete my reading challenges on Storygraph. Some books I'm looking forward to reading later this year are A Short Stay in Hell and Educated.

  • Oldest Book You Own…?🤔

Hi all, hope you’re doing well! I was thinking about how I see so many vintage books when I go shopping at my local second-hand book store. I personally don’t make an effort to collect older books (my probably oldest book is from the 70s) but I was curious as to how old your oldest copies are and what title. Feel free to post a picture too!!💕
