RATING (BASED ON PERSONAL SCALE): 1/5 â Not for me at all, but I finished it. â Name recall? Not happening.
MY TAKE: ACCIDENTALLY READ A DEVOTIONAL INSTEAD OF A ROMANCE
THOUGHTS & FEELS: Sooooo Iâm reviewing this before all my other books because I know if I wait even one day, this entire story will evaporate from my brain.
I picked this up because it was on the Contemporary Christmas Romance side quest list, so I thought, âSure, why not?â Well⊠I now know why not. I went in blind and did not realize this was Christian romance. Not âinspirational.â Not âfaith-adjacent.â I mean full-on preachy. God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, âLord,â rinse, repeat. I found myself genuinely wondering, âDo people talk like this 24/7?â Because if so, the Lord Himself needs PTO.
And listen, Bebeâs daughter is named Hope. HOPE. In a Christian Christmas romance. The subtlety has left the chat.
The wildest part though? Hopeâs biological father being absent is framed as totally fine, because she has a perfect heavenly father who fills that void. Like⊠what?! I literally paused the audiobook.
The romance? Instant and flat. The chemistry? Nonexistent. The plot? Not plotting.
Jahleel is a football player (âcatch,â get it đ) and Bebe is a Sunday school teacher, and somehow even that setup couldnât spark anything. The setting wasnât charming or special, this storyline it couldâve taken place in April and it would read the same.
Toni Shilohâs writing just didnât land for me. It felt bland, rushed, and so PG it looped back to awkward. I also didnât know it was a novella, but honestly the pacing screamed drive-thru romance, so it tracked. I literally answered emails while listening because I knew I wasnât missing a thing.
The ending? Loved it because it meant I was done.
This was my first Toni Shiloh and likely my last. No humor. No swoon. Zero cozy Christmas vibes.
BOTTOM LINE: Not for me. Would only recommend if someone specifically wants a very Christian romance. Otherwise⊠skip and save yourself the time.

This book was so incredibly touching and life changing for me personally. I could not manage to give it anything less than 5 stars overall. To the person who recommended me this book - THANK. YOU. I'm giving YOU five stars, too! đ„°đ€â (P.S, for whoever is reading my reviews, YES it's the same person who's been recommending me books and they are amazing!)
Selah is such a well written character, and I feel like her struggles and her feelings were outlined SO clearly. There was never a moment where I was confused as to what she was trying to say and how she was feeling. I love the role her mom and her Pop played in the story, I feel like without those interactions, the story would've gotten 3.5 stars instead. The way she copes with her experiences and the way she interacts with her world is SO important and I feel like that would've been completely lost without adding her mom and her Pop and having them interact in the ways that they did. I think Pop is my favorite character other than Selah :D
I could NOT put this book down because of how poetic it was and how well it flowed. I was so in the story that I literally forgot about my surroundings. That's how good this book, timeline, and plot was. I feel like one thing to say is that the plot may have felt a bit open ended, but that was NOT something I couldn't get past because the focus was on her experience with autism and how it affected her. This focus came through completely, and I feel like sacrificing full development of the remainder of the plot was a good sacrifice. We did not find out some things that happened at the end, but we did find out the conclusion about her autism + her experiences and that was satisfying as an ending.
I'm so grateful that I was introduced to this book. It will forever hold a place in my heart. Hats off to Meg Eden Kuyatt! I'd love to check out more of her work! I want to know more authors so I can praise their work!!!!! I'm so glad Kuyatt wrote a book touching on such a misunderstood subject.
5/5 ~â
