Beowulf is crazy. How are you supposed to do british lit without beowulf??????
I do love that every time I see a banned books list it feels more like a shopping list for me haha. I would love to hear their "reasons" for why these books should be banned, because I feel like the majority of them are just selling points on the book to me haha Thank you for putting this list together!

đ§đ§đ§ So like... You can ban materials required in research???? That's a thing? What's going to happen to the literature course that uses foundational works like Romeo and Juliet and Beowulf. This is like a scientist tying both hands behind their back and working with their d*cks.
(Pardon me if I'm a little crass. Freshmen cover Romeo and Juliet before they even enter my classroom and I am DUMBFOUNDED.)
I actually teach a whole unit on the Banning of Books to my sophomores and then read banned books đ
This list is wild. And Iâm with @acidicchaos, this is definitely a shopping list đ€Ł I found some things I hadnât gotten around to adding in PB yet. I just canât believe they are banning books at all, let alone at college level đ€Šđ»ââïž
WTF is their problem with Romeo and Juliet?!
Or the Iliad and the Odyssey? Why these specifically? There are several classics on this list that I really would like to know their reasoning. How would you teach ancient civ without mentioning the Greek classics on this list?

My first thought when I saw Romeo and Juliet was a big olâ âwhat are you doing here???â. I was absolutely baffled.

Professors at TTU are not allowed to discuss why these books canât be taught. We do however know that itâs about not having class discussions about gender theory. Unfortunately I do think that this is just the beginning.

Alll of these books are banned because of gender theory??? Is this due to transphobia? Jfc what is happening over there!!! I mean actually I can't comment, aus is getting to be that way... We recently had a publishing house cancel a book (that was already printed, so they pulped it) due to having the phrase 'from the river to the sea.' It was a kid's book by a First Nation's author about waterways and taking care of rivers and nature.
This state and its educational facilities find new ways to disappoint me every time I turn around đ.

I love when bookstores have banned books lists and my kids and I go around saying how many of them we've read but I hate that they're even a thing
