I think Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 is a good fit for this list! The detached narrative style is very intentional.

OH HELL YES I AM HERE it makes me so sad when people say a book is bad because the narrator is disengaged when that’s intentional 😭😭😭I love me some dissonance!

you get it!! these are my favourite kinds of narrators, especially if we get rare, brief glimpses of what’s behind the mask
You can tell when I’ve read reviews before writing my own because it usually sounds like “you don’t GET it you’re SUPPOSED to be bored or not feel emotionally attached, that’s the POINT!”

Ok I have two for now: Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield and Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney. I know Sally Rooney is a very divisive author but her MCs are some of the most emotionally restrained/repressed characters I've read (and I personally love most of her books)

normal people maybe. do you have a favourite?
Normal People is definitely up there, I've read it three times 😂🙈 Conversations with Friends is also good, and I really liked Intermezzo, her latest release. I can't call it a favourite yet because I haven't reread it, but I definitely will, maybe later this year. I got such a book hangover after reading it for the first time that I couldn't read anything else for like a month haha 😅
The only one of her novels I wouldn't recommend is Beautiful World, Where Are You. It was ok, but it's definitely her weakest in my opinion, and there were some things about it I didn't love

The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera might be a good add! One of the narrators is certainly detached and denying his feeling and emotions for a time.
