I remember getting cleopatra from the library in fifth grade and feeling so fancy with the gold edges.

Ooooh yes, they were extremely fancy
OKAY THOUGH GUYS, I NEED YOUR HELP finding a book that I swear to god exists and until this exact minute would have confidently sworn was part of this series.
— about a princess or some kind of royal, or royal adjacent, or possibly some non-royal girl who lived in a castle?? She might have been employed as a companion??? — my brain wholeheartedly believes it had this same cover design — front-facing full-body standing pose, I really believe the dress was blue, shoes visible — possibly she was on a staircase, but don't quote me
maybe? Cecile? These were the Girls of Many Lands series from American Girl, which I devoured around the same time as I did all the Dear America books, so you may have also read those?
Omfg I 1000% read these and forgot all about them. I think you are maybe onto something here, this feels like Something...
(Edit: did you read the AG History Mysteries too? I thought those were super fun!)

From Wikipedia: "Following the Dear America series, in 2000, HBO created three TV films based on three of the Royal Diaries books: Elizabeth I, Isabel, and Cleopatra VII. Reruns of these adaptations later aired on Qubo. As of November 2025, they are available to stream on Tubi and The Roku Channel." PARDON ME
Whaaaaat. I completely missed all of this. I need to watch all of these...both the Dear America and Royal Diaries adaptations!
What do you mean they did this in 2000??? I would have EATEN THAT UP had I known about it??? I was the exact target demo and obsessed with the books 😭😭😭😭

It's not too late!! I'm gonna watch 'em

Literally like 3 days after learning about this, I went to a library sale this morning and found a dvd with all 3 of these movies on it
THE ROYAL PRINCESS DIARIES WERE MY SHIT OMGGGG like this list is my entire personality as a 11 year old thank youuuu (Yes this is my guess 🙂↕️)
Where ayzrules standards BEGAN 👏

HELL YEAH!!!
I remember buying Cleopatra’s for the cover 😂😂 - OMG they had Marie Antoinette!???

That's what started this whole thing — a post in the club reminded me of my obsession with that book, specifically the outfit on the cover, except now I feel like I'm in the twilight zone a little bit bc this isn't the cover I remember??? Deetective Teddy is on the case

Further research suggests that the cover I am thinking of has never belonged to this book, lol. So then...what was it. WHAT WAS IT. And why do I so strongly associate it with The Royal Diaries.
Anyway, I wanted this outfit to be my Halloween costume and I was convinced that I could somehow??? make?? the shoes??? which were absolutely crucial. This dream went unfulfilled, alas
Ugh I loved these books so much! I have a distinct memory of reading the Elizabeth I one while lounging on my inflatable chair in my middle school bedroom 😎 I never realized how many there were in the series!

Omg the inflatable furniture 😭 this sounds like the perfect way to read these :))))
