it happens to the best of us, you start reading a series that sounds so good and then at some point it just…stops, there’s no final book, no satisfying conclusion, nothing. sometimes this is a deliberate choice an author is making (cough, cough George!) or simply they could not complete the series due to life-altering circumstances.
as always, please drop any suggestions in the comments!!!

I simply refuse to accept that ASOIAF will stay unfinished 😤😭
(but thank you for this list! a good heads-up for other works 🙂↕️)
Me when I am in denial.
(I want ASOIAF to be finished so bad 😭😭😭😭)
Join me in the bubble of rejecting the facts because it will be finished, yesyes 🙂↕️
I am in a very similar bubble 😭😭😭 also in my bubble the show ended after season six because what the literal hell was all that???
I have to admit, I never watched the show because I only learned about it when the finale was already released and everyone warned me it was...not great 😬 would you agree or are the first six seasons worth it? 👀
I think it’s all worth it, I might be biased since (lore drop) I used to have a game of thrones twitter where I live tweeted the episodes to my 4 followers 😭 I loved the show, I loved how many people were all watching it and coming up with crackpot theories and I miss that era of TV so much. I have a lot of nostalgia surrounding the show, I watched it from season 1 all the way through, read the books alongside the show and went to the game of thrones live in concert every year it came to LA. I know this is a whole ass essay about a show that ended 7 years ago (how has it been 7 years) but it’s just that special to me. Also House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are 100000% worth the watch! Dunk and Egg are some of my fav guys 🥹
this is the best lore drop I've come across today, it's so wholesome and nice to hear and I love how it resembles PB-feeling, with everyone coming together and sharing their thoughts!! And I simply adore when humans talk about stuff they love and this essay truly shows how much this show means to you 🥹 you have me convinced!! I'll definitely give it a try 🙂↕️
and if you don’t like it, that’s okay too!!!
Maybe when I'm finished with the series, the next book will be released 🙂↕️
The Gentlemen Bastards series by Scott Lynch. The first book is The Lies of Locke Lamora. Granted, the books stand very well on their own and each book has a satisfying conclusion but it’s an unfinished series nonetheless.
I was considering this series but I wasn’t well versed in the background so thank you for sharing this!!! will be adding now 🫡
me checking in to make this exact comment. where is book 4 Scott?!? Where is it?
One mysterious one that will hopefully no longer fit on this list in the future is Atonement of the Spine Cleaver by F.E. Bryce. The release of book 2 has been pushed back I think 5ish times at this point, and the author herself has gone fully off the grid. On the website, it still states the release date of Ascent of the Copper Dragon as one of the pushed-back dates, May 30, 2025, and her IG bio says the most recent date that was provided, June 30, 2025. Naturally, people are freaked out a little bit, as some had pre-ordered and have not received any information or refund or anything. I loved the first book so I hope book 2 will eventually be published and that the author is okay! [posted April 2026]
oh wow that’s…concerning! going off grid is a lil red flag to me!!! adding now 🫡
I have an interesting one for this.
Lords of the Underworld series, Rise of the Warlords series and Immortal Enemies series by Gena Showalter-the tea is the author had a very bad breakup with their publisher and now the publisher still owns the rights to those books and series so the author can't/won't write anymore even though all the series are completely unfinished!
UGH publishers make me so frustrated sometimes!!! adding to the list now!
Suite Francaise is one of the most haunting books I’ve ever read. I forever mourn the loss of the author to the Holocaust and not knowing how the series was supposed to end.
this list is the definition of spain no s HAHAHA. seeing hunter x hunter on here… :^) hxh fans are simply built different
I’m in Spain drop the S is one of my fav things to say the day after my softball games, I’m always so sore 😭
The Legendsong series by Isobelle Carmody. Not officially abandoned but the second book of the trilogy was published in 2002, sooooo...
24 years is quite a long hiatus….ill add it!!!
i love the emojis on this list!! theyre creative!!
thank you!!! the emojis are my favorite part after creating the list 🤭
Boys Don't Cry by Malorie Blackman. The book doesn't need a sequel, but I was overjoyed to find that there was one. For some reason, it has a title and a cover, and it's listed on websites including PB, just that I can't find it no matter where I search. It's called Heart Break Girl, and I've even emailed the author's team to ask about it but haven't received a reply. It's a mystery to me!
oh that is heartbreaking 😭😭😭 you may have already gone down this road, but have you tried searching on ebay or something similar but for books?
Nope the book just isn't published. It's listed everywhere but not for sale on any platform. I really loved the first book and it is sad that it doesn't exist.
thats even worse than existing but being out of print 😭
I know right! I just wish the publishers and author said something about it. Either take of the book listing or finally publish it
