The Time Machine by H.G. Wells definitely fits this list. Arguably the main theme of the book. The last lines are "And I have by me, for my comfort, two strange white flowersâshrivelled now, and brown and flat and brittleâto witness that even when mind and strength had gone, gratitude and a mutual tenderness still lived on in the heart of man."
Ooo this sounds so good! Definitely up my alley.
