so funny you say you didnât enjoy The GirlsâŚim trying to get thru her new book Switzy right now and am not loving it so far. i realize I havenât loved anything of hers as much as i did The Girls, but i read it 10 years ago so wonder if iâd feel the same today. maybe ill give it a reread one dayâŚ
I just feel like The Girls came so close to expressing interesting ideas but never did? The narrator is always on the cusp of realizing something and never makes it there. It felt half-baked to me, like Cline should have sat with the ideas a little longer before writing. Then there was the gratuitous CSAâŚ

very fair. i suppose the narratorâs half-baked understanding felt real to me given her young age but now im questioning how much I attributed that to Evie vs Cline!
we did get her reflections from her adult self though and that was where it fell flat for me! she didn't truly reflect or come to any conclusions, imo
so many books iâve never heard of!! i love it
