Me Talk Pretty One Day

I'm not very far in and glancing at other forum posts I know I'm in the minority, but this writing style is already getting on my nerves. The way every single detail is overly described is so frustrating. Do we really need an adjective for every different part of the demon's body? When you are essentially describing a stereotypical archetype of a demon? And the way the writing bounces between overly florid "deep" passages (that you KNOW the author was just patting themself on the back for) to attempts at comedic writing is all clanging so badly for me. I'm gonna keep reading since this book is super short anyway but holy cow almost dnf'd on the first page.

I've noticed that a lot of people on this app seem to have three books at a time listed as "currently reading," which is interesting to me. Especially because these books often (but not always) look to be in similar genres. For me personally, I tend to only have one or two books being read, and usually, one is an audiobook while the other one is print (well, digital print). I might occasionally have a third book in progress if it's a completely different genre, but I can't imagine keeping five at the same time. I also feel like I'm more willing to "pause" or "DNF" books if I"m not engaged, rather than keeping them open for long periods of time. But I'm curious how others feel. How many books do you read at a time, and why does that work for you?

Have you read a book that perfectly embodies a feeling? This happened to me recently when I read Mad Sisters of Esi. The book perfectly captured that lonesome feeling of longing and wanting to belong. I would love to hear what books you feel perfectly embody a feeling or emotion!!

I'm kinda new to reading books (in the sense that's it's a hobby I regularly do), so I've never been in a "reading slump" before, and so wondering how people work out if they're in one. What are the symptoms? 👩⚕️🔍🩺 Because lately I haven't really enjoyed any of my books, and I can't quite figure out if it's the books fault or if it's a me problem 🤷
Edit: Forgot to clarify, by "new to reading" I mean I've only really been reading books consistently for the past year
