Oh we’re SO back. I have DNFed about 10 books since the beginning of this year and it’s been driving me insane. I’ve genuinely felt like there was a hole in my heart because I love reading but have felt so disconnected from it. AND THEN THIS BOOK?!?!?! YALL this book lit a fire in my soul. I read this book in less than three days. Just ate it up. Such a cute and fun love story, the mystery kept me engaged, the world was so immersive and easy to love, the characters were bright and lively and felt so real. I’m so happy that this is a SERIES and I can keep riding this high for three more books. Thank you T. Kingfisher for everything you do. I love you so much and wish I could marry you.

I found myself having fun and feeling a nostalgia reading this book.
This book is humorous in tone and you should go in expecting the characters to be extra and not always acting in a way that makes sense. I’m not usually one to like heavy dialogue but I make an exception here. The interactions between characters had a lot of chemistry (beyond just romantic and not only between the main characters).
For the negative: There were parts of this book where I felt like the story was just dragging. I do feel like this book could have been cut down.

I could follow along with the implications in Macbeth and Caesar because I’ve read the Scottish play and I know enough of the general plot of Caesar; but I know absolutely nothing about king Lear and I feel like it’s important to the story so i guess I’m gonna read a summary of it 🤷 Edit: highly recommend sparknotes for Shakespeare summaries lol

The fact that I have to listen to entire plays of Shakespeare really takes me out of the story.
