Not sure how I feel about a white narrator doing a black southern accent. The other southern accents are a bit grating as well.

Maybe this is just me, but I was having a hard time up until a little bit before this point comprehending in full what I was reading. I think its the jumping around the timeline? Or I'm dumb LMAO. Not sure. Overall, I am enjoying it a lot. I like fmc thus far (although I typically like the way T. Kingfisher writes fmcs) and I am loving the general eeriness as well. Anyways, let me know if any of you feel this way or if it's simply a me problem lol

TW: THIS BOOK CONTAINS BODY HORROR! Parasites are a huge part of this book. If you can not handle detailed descriptions of parasitic insects and what happens to their victims, avoid this one. Theres a lot of it.

I feel like i would have enjoyed this book a lot more if i had read a physical copy or an ebook over the audio book. The voice the narrator uses for the black southern character was extremely uncomfortable. (Not racist, mind, she does thhe same type of overperformed voice for the white southerners.)

I didnt feel as pulled out of the world by the tone as ive seen a few people say they were, but i do see where theyre coming from.

Overall i really enjoyed this book. All of thhe characters had distinct personality, and the plot pace was slow burn, but enjoyable.

It reminded me of Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier throughout until the end where Rebecca skews mundane, and this one skews paranormal.
