“Benoit LeBec,” Muriel said. “He’s the dump guy, Québécois, goes to A, drives the forklift . . .” “A?” “AA,” Muriel said. “But nothing’s anonymous on this island, so they just call it A.

This book has put unforgettable images in my brain; delicate, gore, poetic and dramatic paintings of our main characters and their adventures – those they live and those they imagine.
I couldn't stop reading about them. I found the plot sometimes too convenient/unrealistic, and the writing was too obvious and could have let the reader figure things out, but Sadie, Marie and the whimsy of the writing carried the whole book.
Unfortunately it means the "social fight" and "moral message" parts of the book didn't import me that much ^^'

something i've noticed in my physical hardcover copy, is that every chapter starts on the right hand side. multiple times, there have been chapters where if it ends on the right hand side, the next page is left blank to allow for the new chapter to start on the right hand side. is this the same for the soft cover editions? other hardcover editions?
idk if this is something to look into/investigate, but it seems like such an intentional choice that i want to look into it. i even opened up my hardcover of the ashfire king and a hardcover of mad sisters of esi to see if this is something that's in all books, but in these books, there aren't any pages being left blank. anyone work in publishing that's able to chime in? or anyone else wondering about this?

There was a slight tremor from the sound of all the boots falling off the feet of girls and hitting the ground at the same time. They made the sound of an army being called to attention.
I love these absurd and poetic inserts. It makes the story more about the symbolism, brighter and more whimsical too. I'm the kind of reader that pictures all scenes in my head and it makes them all so colorful ✨
