I only had twenty pages left but couldn’t push my self to read the end. This book was honestly super duper sad and made me cry a lot. I didn’t think it was normal how much I cried while reading this but it made me realize I never want to read any other books by this author. It’s just too heart breaking for me.
But also… I didn’t like how Laila wanted to return to Afghanistan after all she had been through over there. And to bring her kids too. It just didn’t rub me the right way. I guess the sadness of the book does not only lie in the abuse women go through but also that it happened in a country that she loves unconditionally. So even when her country is still dangerous for her, she still wants to go back to her homeland—the place where she grew up. I guess I understand why she would want to go back.
But overall, this book is good if you want to read soul crushing sad porn. Every line just carves a deeper wound.
4/5 will never read again
