Hello!
As I've been waiting for my Royal Assassin hold to come in at the library, I've also been getting JesterxKnight or JesterxKing content on my timeline. It's making me want to read something where the fool or jester has a strong role in a fantasy book. Think the Fool in the Farseer Trilogy. I'm (slowly) making my way through Robin Hobb's work, so I'm sure I'll get more Fool content eventually. The dynamic doesn't need to be romantic, I just like the idea of seeing a silly guy getting away with manipulating everything because people only think they're a silly guy and nothing more. Any recommendations are appreciated!

What an incredibly vivid and strange field trip, with a slowly dissociating biologist.
I can’t say I enjoyed the book. It was well written and the characters are certainly developed (okay mainly just the one character). But it was to slow and aimless for me.
The book has any annoying habit of when anything interesting starts to happen we cut away to a flashback that is somewhat related to it or is a metaphor for it. I understand that’s supposed to build tension, but all it did was bump me out of the interesting story line I was following.
The other thing was that this didn’t really unnerve or scare me the way I was hoping it would. It’s certainly dark and weird but the lack of overt hostility towards our MC, made it feel more like a choice she was making than something she was made to do. I find it’s a lot more frightening when there is a loss of agency. There is definitely a loss of control argument there, but I didn’t really feel the effects enough in the narration to justify that fear.
Finally If you are expecting the movie, it is very much not that. The movie is more like another story that could happen in the same world.

Hi Boundlings!
Just curious whether you guys take notes while reading and what kind of things you write, whether they’re for yourself or for a review. Do you use a journal? Do you go back and refer to these notes? How detailed do you go?
For those who do write reviews (seriously or not), how soon do you start crafting your review? How do you make sure you have everything you want to add to it?
Over the years, I’ve found that reviews are my way of note-taking and recalling how I felt about a book. Unfortunately, I’ve only done it more consistently in the past year or so. It’s not that I take it very seriously but sometimes I find myself already writing up my review in my head and well, I might as well just write it down.
This doesn’t mean point-form headers and vague scribbles. I have everything mostly there, all written out, and structured the way I want it. Obviously I might be missing details since I haven’t finished the book, but I find I rarely change too much after I’m done. This gives me lowkey anxiety because what if I end up changing my mind about the book completely because of its ending?
Anyway, very curious about your experience. I am also ready to take notes if you have tips! 😉

Really enjoyed the ending of a couple big story lines for the series.
Can’t wait to continue to see where this goes. These continue to be my comfort listens. The audiobooks are incredibly well read.
