  • How do you treat your books?

Okay Boundlings, I fear this may get me kicked out of PB (jokes) but I have to know if anybody else here is a freak like me...

Does anybody else dog ear their books? Just your own physical copies, not a borrowed book! I have alwayssss just folded over the page I'm on for any book I own. When it's a borrowed book from a friend or library then I make sure I have bookmarks (even if it's just a receipt), but for my own.. down the corner goes. I find it really satisfying and I love to look back when I'm re-reading a book and see where I've paused previously. I find it comforting haha. I also believe that books should be loved and used, so I don't really care if I make a food stain (lol oops) or slightly rip a page or something. I also will break the spine of the book to make it easier to read. šŸ˜… My cats growing up used to bite the side of my books, so a bunch of books I have from my youth have little teeth marks on them. When I look at them I just remember my little kitties and it makes me really happy!

To be clear I really value books! I've never been wealthy, so bought a lot of my books second hand or received them as gifts. When I lend them out I expect people to take care of them, but I also don't get mad if shit happens. Like once a friend left my book in her car with the window accidentally down and it got rained on and ruined, but I didn't mind. It was an accident!

I know most people are really really careful with their books, so I'm just curious if I'm alone in this.

Please other freaks, let yourselves be known (or not, nothing is gonna change me at this point haha) šŸ’—

75 Booked Challenge starts on Friday!! More Info. on how to participate!

    Hi All,

Some of you may have seen my earlier post about running an informal 75 Booked Challenge! There was some interest and desire for participation, so I wanted to formally introduce the challenge, how I will be "facilitating", and welcome folks!

šŸ“š What is the 75 Booked Challenge?

    • This challenge is based off the popular fitness challenge called 75 hard; however, the 75 Booked challenge is a much softer and meant to encourage TBR tackling, building bookish community, spending time with your reading practice, and reducing bookish consumption for 75 days. The challenge was created by @emilypaigebooks on TikTok and all credit goes to that account!

    šŸ“š What are the rules?

    Official challenge rules:

    • Complete two 45-minute reading sessions each day (one of them not in bed). And yes, audiobooks count.
    • Finish a water bottle during each reading session.
    • Log all your reading in a physical journal.
    • No purchasing new books—everything you read must already be owned, bought secondhand, or borrowed from a library. (found on The Everygirl, written by Leanna Julius)

    Added community guidelines:

    • we celebrate ALL reading (audiobooks, e-readers, physical books, etc.)
    • we do not participate in genre shaming! read what you want and leave what you don't!
    • customize the "rules" to fit your needs! For some (myself included) two 45 minute sessions a day is not attainable - that's 100% okay and you are still welcome to participate!

    šŸ“š How can I participate?

I will be posting weekly updates in the Pagebound Club every Friday for the duration of the challenge! I'll include some prompts encouraging people to share their experiences, what they're reading, etc. with each post. They will be clearly labeled with "75 Booked Challenge - [Insert Week] Wrap-Up".

Note: I am holding myself gently accountable for this because I want to build community; however, I may accidentally miss a week or be a bit late. Please be understanding :)

    šŸ“š When do we start?

If you've made it all the way to this part of the post - thank you! We begin the challenge on May 15th and I will post the 1st weekly wrap-up on May 22nd! Can't wait to hear from you all!

  • Accidental Quest Fullfilment?

I'm sure there are quests out there that you try to complete or read more in because you're interested in the quest itself (or the badge). But I'm curious if you guys have quests you accidentally earn badges for. You're just out there reading books and oh that's on the quest list and suddenly you're 10 books deep into the quest without trying

for me it's the Every Villain is a Hero in Their Own Eyes, like sometimes books get added to it and oops i've read it XD or I read a book and suddenly my badge updates. If you asked me what kind of books I liked, I'd say horror, but if you asked PB it's apparently villains as heroes (Ė˜āˆ€Ė˜)/(μ‿μ) ā¤

TLDR: the back 30% is an awesome action scene, but the first 70% is not worth it.

This book is important to setup a couple really important characters and events in the Horus Heresy. It does this, while it’s mostly a lot of waffling about physic powers. It also promently features people ignoring pretty obvious consequences of being overconfident.

ā€œbut if they don’t display the flaws how do they earn to the tragic downfallā€ I think this focuses to much on the flaws and not on the interesting parts of the legion (while people like them in the first place). These guys are not just sorcerers in the making, they are supposed to be the smartest, most insightful, blinding brilliant marines in the imperium.

When the sons are not able to puzzel out a set of particularly obvious prophecy, or not make contingencies for disobeying the emperor, it really cheapens their supposed intelligence. Sometimes it’s not that they can’t figure it out, they just ignore it or aren’t shown to try.

It would’ve help if there was a section of the legion tried to do something. Then they could be exiled and you’d still have the same result, but it would at least show part of what is supposed to make the legion interesting. The HH series does this with other legions like the luna wolves and death gaurd.

In this novel Magnus and his sons look like spoiled children that have played a stupid game and won a stupid prize.

… the fight at the end is really cool though.

  • Favorite Genre?

Hey, fellow boundlings! As I was planning my TBR for the next few months, I realized there were quite a few historical books I was ecstatic to read, but couldn’t due to lack of time 😢. So it got me wondering: what genre for you (I know we all have multiple, but just pick one šŸ˜‰), is like a drink of cold water in the midst of a hot summer day? (Pardon the simile/metaphor).

For me, it’s historical fiction 🄰. I haven’t been reading much lately, but am so excited to read Madeline Martin’s historical fiction books later this year, A Castaway in Cornwall by Julie Klassen, and more! Historical fiction books set during WWII (especially in Paris), or other similar books are so refreshing for me, despite the depressing era (🤫) What about you??

What's the first book that comes up when you search your name?

Just a bit of fun! I sometimes forget to select the user tab on phone, and on web sometimes I search for people to go and see what cool things they've been reading but I get a bit lazy

Because of this, I've accidentally landed on Jimmy Kimmels's The Serious Goose way too many times to count when going to check out what @SeriousGoose is up to. Or I decide to go see @daydreamday and end up staring at Daydream (Maple Hills, #3) by Hannah Grace wondering why I clicked on it without thinking šŸ˜† There are other people like @yourartistfriend where I have never been lost though!

SO when you search your name (or username) under the book search, does a book come up? What is it?

Mine is Avalon by Anya Seton - which is one of many books with 'Avalon' in the title. But I still haven't read it.

P.S. If you haven't checked out @ayzrules's Pagebound User Book Cameo list, its fun and semi-related to this.
