The writing feels very YA so far, while the content is more adult, which is disorienting. I'm hoping the plot is engaging enough that I'll stop noticing that soon... or maybe I should just try to imagine her as a teenage "chosen one" rather than an adult??

This book is fascinating. I did not enjoy it just for reading's sake, but it has made me interested in the historical/literary context. To read it for fun is not enjoyable, but it made me an English major again, so extra points for making me think! I might revisit my review after doing some research.

Pinterest? Is that you?
Has Pinterest been an exercize in absurdism this whole time? I feel like the character cutting out and pasting things that amuse him in the papers is inherently absurdist, but it seems remarkably like organizing pins into pinterest boards. 😂
