I hate to say this, but I'm kind of bored with the book. The pace is slower than I am accustomed to and I think that's taking a toll on my interest. The blurb made the book sound more mystery oriented than anything, but I'm not finding that to be the actual case. I'm not going to DNF the book because I want the summer reading badge, but I'll be honest and say that this book is not what I was expecting and I'm kind of disappointed. It's well-written and I can see how others would enjoy it, but it's just not for me.

This book is quite well-written in the fact that I KNOW my mind is being forced to grapple with heavy philosophical ideas on human nature, reality, and what I consider right and wrong. But I have absolutely zero clue what those ideas are or how they are influencing my thoughts. Maybe this whole book is a power morpheme. Maybe Scott Moore is the true linguist mage.

This is definitely an easy read for me and a book I come back to whenever I'm in a slump. I just love Jon and Donovan so much.

How has everyone's June been? Read anything good? My favorite so far is my reread of the Outsiders since it has been my favorite book since 8th grade when I had to read it!

I would like to preface this by saying that I was very much NOT the demographic this book was intended for. I can see this book appealing to high schoolers and younger adults who are still trying to find there place in the world, but as an adult who has already learned all the lessons the books was trying to teach... I found it boring. That being said, it was a well written YA book that perfectly balanced easily relatable characters, accessible voice, and important philosophical ideas that all teenagers will confront during their transition into adulthood. I would recommend teen librarians, high school media specialists, and just anyone who deals with teenage angst on the regular to keep this book within arms reach. It is the equivalent of a gay John Green book and I can see many a teenager benefitting from reading it. However, if you are an adult you may not find this book enjoyable or engaging. Unless you are feeling nostalgic, I wouldn't recommend it to most adults.

I would have eaten this up as a teenager, but as an adult... I'm finding it frustrating. Maybe it's because I've already learned and contemplated the life lessons this book brings up or maybe I just don't like YA, but I'm finding this book a bot boring. I'm gonna finish it because I want the badge, but I don't see myself picking it up again after (or any of McQuiston's other work)
