I tried. I really really tried. I wanted to like this book but at just a little under half of the way through, I've decided to quit. It just isn't for me. I actually found myself dreading and/or skipping my nightly reading time because I felt obligated to read this book. I just find it incredibly boring and slow-paced to the point of frustration. I'm not really invested in the characters or the plot (at least what little of it there is). I had such high hopes for this book and am sad that it wasn't what I expected. I'll probably either gift my copy to someone or leave it in a free little library in hopes that it will be someone else's favorite book.

Look- I don't like contemporary romance. The plots are cliché and predictable, the characters often shallow, and the actual romance has little substance. Oh and don't forget the "life lesson" or MC learns that often results in them giving up their dream to stay in a small town with "the one". This book is no different. And I freaking loved it! Kosoko Jackson did an absolutely brilliant job of writing a story that follows all the classic tropes of a cozy, light-hearted romance while maintaining a unique and engaging story. I absolutely adored Xavier and seeing his evolution unfold was truly a gift. Logan too was a fun character to follow and his growth matched Xavier's in complexity. Heck, the story made me rethink my own relationship with my hometown and my desperate need to flee to a big city in a different country to escape it. This book was truly a masterpiece and I think every romance lover should read it.

A fun murder mystery with a unique twist and a sweet relationship. Not the deepest book I read, but a great palette cleanser to get you out of a reading slump

I hate to say this, but I'm kind of bored with the book. The pace is slower than I am accustomed to and I think that's taking a toll on my interest. The blurb made the book sound more mystery oriented than anything, but I'm not finding that to be the actual case. I'm not going to DNF the book because I want the summer reading badge, but I'll be honest and say that this book is not what I was expecting and I'm kind of disappointed. It's well-written and I can see how others would enjoy it, but it's just not for me.

This book is quite well-written in the fact that I KNOW my mind is being forced to grapple with heavy philosophical ideas on human nature, reality, and what I consider right and wrong. But I have absolutely zero clue what those ideas are or how they are influencing my thoughts. Maybe this whole book is a power morpheme. Maybe Scott Moore is the true linguist mage.

This is definitely an easy read for me and a book I come back to whenever I'm in a slump. I just love Jon and Donovan so much.
