(after reading through the PageboundGuide and Content Guide, I still wasn't sure where to post this, but it was pretty clear to not post author-specific questions in the club, so I thought this was my best bet; I'll delete this if that turned out wrong)
So I'm generally a romance avoider; spec fic is my beloved and usually in those genres I want the focus to be on the speculative part, but I do enjoy a good romance subplot and I like trying new things, so I thought I might give the romance genre a try. I thought Emily Henry might be a good starting place, since I've heard she has strong characters and more emotionally heavy plots and that sounds more my speed So, my questions. One: which book of hers is the best starting place for a person new to her books? And two: how much spice is in her books? I'm a low spice/closed door type of reader (just not my thing and I'm still scarred from idly picking up some of my mom's Bridgerton books at too young an age), but I'm willing to skim/skip if necessary, I'd just like to know what I'm getting into Thank you for any and all help, and hopefully this is the right place for this question!

Snowed-In Romance
What makes snowed-in different than forced-proximity? Why is snow different from other situational nature stuff? Why are so many of these stories novellas? How do authors use snow as a plot device, a ticking clock, or a starting gun? All that, and a plea for more snowed-in romances without the holiday angle.

the quiet side of tomorrow
Not all science fiction is laser battles and intergalactic warfare! This list is aiming for the softer side of sci-fi. The kind where the stars hum quietly, the characters pause to breathe, and discoveries are found within. āØ
Iām attempting to cultivate a collection of books that are low stakes, cozy sci-fi, filled with found family, gentle exploration, and quiet wonder. š
If you have recommendations, please leave them in the comments! š

I recently discovered my youngest sibling is really getting into reading, his most recent series being A Good Girls Guide to Murder. He's annotating and everything and I'm THRILLED by this discovery, so I'm hoping to get some input on generally age-appropriate introductions to various genres.
So far he seems to enjoy thriller/mystery and is currently re-reading Fahrenheit 451 outside of school. I'm already planning to get him The Hunger Games, The Giver, and potentially another shorter dystopia series that I enjoyed at his age(Forest of Hands and Teeth or The Storm). He says he needs things to actually be happening so cozy is out for now, but I'm coming to a blank on fantasy, sci-fi, and maybe horror leaning intro books that might fit his tastes. I'd also like to be mindful of the fact that I heavily favor female protagonists but I'd like to have a few male protagonists in the mix for him as well.
As far as "age appropriate" goes he's just turning 13 but is already a big fan of horror films and the household is very lenient on most themes. Really I'm just trying not to accidentally give my brother smut with the sort of merging of New Adult and YA that seems to have happened in recent years.
